Pretty good food, awesome view of Shem creek, and good service for the most part. Definitely a party/ drinking scene, so don't expect a quiet meal on the water! Fun hangout spot though.

Just the best fried seafood and waterfront fun you can have and still stay legal! If you don't love this place then there is something wrong with you.

I was coerced into going to Red's last night by a dear friend of mine who craves sweet death nearly as much as I do. It had been a few days since hitting the bottle, 2 in fact, and I was beginning to get the shakes from lack of PBR, not to mention my bowel movements had been far too solid for my tastes. I showed up at Reds wearing a hot pink shirt. This was actually my first time to the Mt. Pleasant location, and I didn't get the memo that you should look like you just fell out of the back of a garbage truck, complete with a shit stain on your back. I got my drink and went upstairs and stared at a woman hanging off a balcony, only to discover she was a mannequin later. I felt like a fool, but not as big of a fool as I did later. Somehow or another, I discovered that that night was all-you-can eat crab night and boy, did my night go south after that, and that was before I was told they didn't have anything to crack the crabs. I first ordered the killer shrimp, which were as described: I paid $10 for 12 previously frozen shrimp from a bag from Costco. But the real killer was coming soon. After some thought, I ordered the crab legs. At first, it started off well. I was stuffing my face with loads of buttery crab meat, feeling my thighs expand like a woman after eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's. And then, like hope in my life, the crab legs stopped coming. I thought this was all-you-can eat crab, not all-we-care-to-give-you. After a day of waiting for my 4th and 5th rounds because dammit, I paid $30 for these, our server, who had to be drunk by then, showed up with a bunch of crab I had lost interest in. Who wants to wait an hour in between crab bingefests? You can only keep my attention so long when I haven't snorted a crushed up pill of adderall, and by then my mood had gone from bad to suicidal, and just continued to get worse when I got the check. Red's gets 1 stars for offering all-you-can-eat crab legs, and 1 star for having PBR at their bar. At least in the morning, the mess I made felt like PBR and smelled like a bag of popcorn at the movie theater. It wasn't a total loss.

Good food and portion size is good as well. I didn't give it five stars because the chairs were a bit rickety and worn out and there was graffiti on the walls in the ladies' restroom. The atmosphere can be a bit loud, but should be fun for kids early in the day. The adult party crowd fills up the place fast later in the afternoon and early evening, so I would not suggest this place for kids around that time. Otherwise, the prices were good and I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and colleagues. I definitely plan to visit again soon.

Was visiting from Florida for the weekend and chose your place for an early dinner. Sorry guys you would have gotten more stars if I was not served a raw hamburger this past weekend! I'm not talking rare or medium rare (as it was ordered), I am talking raw, the cow was still mooing when it arrived at the table. I am just happy my 1 year old grandson didn't eat it first, The burger was not even comped. I did get a replacement burger that was well done, I had to pay for it! Totally Not cool. You did get two stars because I loved the atmosphere,

I saw the bar tender blow a snot rocket into the trash can a few minutes after I arrived. No joke- at the bar... He then proceeded to wait our table. Food was solid, but could not get over the guy waiting on us. Also, a total of two local beers!?!? Beautiful scenery, less than pleasant staff. Food served on 2/4/15 approximately 8:45PM on outer deck.

Our final night in Charleston, and we couldn't pass up on Red's Monday-night all-you-can-eat crab legs feast. We dropped in around 7pm and the place was about 3/4 full. - A bonus: live entertainment - a guitar player (who was VERY good!) All things considered, this was a decent place...but just barely. The crab legs were alternately warm and cool, with very little meat. We went through buckets(!) to get a good feeding. :). A personal gripe: no small forks were provided to assist with our eating the crab legs. I literally destroyed the tines of a regular fork in the process. Our server was less that accommodating and seemed outright inconvenienced that we were there. Follow-up attention was negligible and attitude was a bit cold. Despite that, the music made the dinner enjoyable and we departed with a modest level of satisfaction. When I return to Charleston, I'll pass this place by...been there, done it.

Good service, great location and good atmosphere where we could watch dolphins swim by, but the food was blah. Had the shrimp tacos-lots of shrimp and they were fresh, but tiny and everything else had little flavor and seemed pre-made.

Amazing atmosphere. The place was packed, but the servers were amazing. The food was awesome!

Red's has a fantastic atmosphere for kicking back a few cold ones on a beautiful Charleston day. Go sit back along the back deck and watch the various activities in Shem Creek including the frequent dolphins that come by to play with the paddleboarders and kayakers. It is incredibly relaxing. Do be prepared, especially on a nice weekend evening, for it to be busy. During the summers they have various bands, comedians, and such on the weekends. Their website stays updated with the upcoming events. My biggest complaint is their food. It's so/so. If it weren't for that, I'd give it four stars.

I love this place. Get there at least a half hour before all you can eat crab night because the restaurant hits capacity quickly and nobody is there for less than an hour. Great atmosphere on Shem creek. Watch the dolphins from the decks. Big pitcher sized mixed drinks are a must-have. Our server was great and we compensated her well for her efforts as we had about 12 ppl crushing crab legs for an hour and a half. Live music, friendly and inviting atmosphere. Have eaten there 3 times and have never been disappointed

Great location and setting. Service is okay and food is so so. But Monday night is all you can eat crab, which is worth the trip.

Had to wait 1.5hours for my husband & mom to get all you can eat crab legs, but was worth the wait for them!!! Had a couple of the bucket drinks to make the wait go by....very tasty!

This was my first time having oysters and they were great. We had oysters, crab, shrimp and fried green tomatoes. I would definitely eat here again. My only complaint is that the shrimp was served cold which was not expected. The atmosphere is really nice too. The outside foes right out on the water.

Great place to hang out by the water and have a few laughs with your friends. Kid and dog friendly at lunchtime, but very adult after sunset. My only real problem with Red's is their parking situation. Seriously - spend some cash and fix your lot guys. Some of these puddles are so deep and wide they have their own tide system.
(4)
Shsron F.
Shrimp and grits are very good. Other things on the menu are fried this and that. I would have liked more healthy choices like broiled fish dishes and grilled shrimp. To their credit they do have a low country boil Shrimp poor boy was also tasty

Great place to drink! The only thing I don't particularly enjoy is the bathroom near the main entrance (so smelly). The one further into the building is much nicer. All in all the food and atmosphere is great :). Good times will be had!

Ate here Friday night with my boyfriend and our friends and it was awesome! !! I really enjoyed my blackened grouper sandwhich and sunset margarita. Also enjoyed my view of the water on a nice breezy night I love Redds, will be back real soon

View is awesome. Drinks are fine. Dinner, not great. I hate to knock a place, but ordered mahi mahi salad which was around $11. Small bowl. Iceberg lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, cheese. Forgot the croutons. 3 small pieces of mahi. Like extremely small. One person's entree in our party was completely forgotten (though comped). Overall -- go for the views, not the food.

Enjoy the view of dolphins while you eat. Bring the pups too. Wonderful view on Shem Creek. Burgers, seafood, wings and cold beer! Prices are very responsible and all you can eat crab legs on Monday for $30 and you do not even have to ask for more they just keep coming
(5)
Christine J.
The atmosphere of being right on the water, literally being able to dock your boat and walk right up into the restaurant is nice. The views are beautiful and the staff were great. I had the warm crab dip with chips and crab cake sandwich (I obviously love crab) and both were really tasty. I tried the hushpuppies and the blackened tuna both were so so good. I think the menu is deceiving since it's not extensive and looks like a chain restaurant like Applebee's or Chili's menus. The weather was chilly but clear skies so there were a lot of people and I can imagine it's really crazy during the warmer months.

We went last Sunday the 13th. It was pouring rain, we really were not able to enjoy the view. Sat at the bar outside which was covered, drinks were good along with the bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops. The Killer Shrimp on the other hand were horrible. The taste was totally off, they tasted like spicy oregano shrimp.

Where to begin with Red's...The positives...probably the best atmosphere of any place in the area, usually lots of beautiful girls, very reasonable prices, amazing kebabs, tons of dolphins around. The negatives...their food really is not good at all, it's very quiet here in the colder months, and they lack good live entertainment on a lot of nights when other places have tons going on.
(3)
Lindsay S.
I really enjoy this place for drinks and appetizers. Can't speak about their entrees, but if you just want to enjoy the water view with a beer and snacks, this is a great place to post up. We had the warm crab dip and it was devoured in minutes. Great service and views of the creek.

Okay- so I know that Red's on Shem Creek has some of the best views in town, and, for that reason, it really is a great spot for happy hour. Not only can you take stunning shots of the sunset over the waterways, but you're sure to spot some dolphins swimming alongside the docks. Plus, they offer reasonable prices on beer & spirits. For these reasons, I give it three stars. That being said, I have to be honest in saying that the food is a little overrated. For being so close to the water & local fishing vessels, you'd think that you'd find the area's best seafood here. Most of it is a little sub-par, so I'd probably stop here for a quick drink and memorable views, but move along when you start to get hungry. There are definitely better spots for seafood in the area!

Richard R.
The front desk manager @ our hotel HIGHLY recommended this place along with several Charlestonian Yelpers. Wish I could agree, but sadly Red's was one of the most underwhelming restaurants we visited during our week long stay in Charleston. In one sentence... it's cool to visit, but there is no way I would recommend Red's to anyone visiting the city for the first time. The crab cakes were the WORST I've ever eaten (contrary to my hotel managers description). Everything else we sampled was fair to magnificently average. Red's may be great for drinks and the food probably tastes better after a few of them, but if you are a FOODIE visiting for the first time... steer clear of this place!!!

My husband and I ate at Red's yesterday afternoon with 4 other people. We sat outside in Jessica's section. Our table is a table full of servers and bartenders. Our service was terrible! Jessica was so slow getting to our table that one of the couples went to the outside bar, got drinks, delivered and paid for them before she acknowledged us. And when she did, she told us we had to close our tab because her table wasn't part of the bar. We would have gladly placed our order with her had she been there to take it. When we finally got her attention again we all had empty drinks and had asked for water; she brought a pitcher of water previously, but no cups to drink it with. Rather than wait on her again we ordered 2 drinks at a time and I wrote down our food order for her by seat number (assuming that seat 1 is the person to the left if the server is facing the water). Before our food arrived it started to rain. We spoke to the hostess and moved inside. I told Jessica that we could close out with her or transfer or whatever was easiest. She chose to close out. We paid her before our food arrived and never saw her again. Only to find out that she hasn't rung in one of our orders! We left her $40 on $140 because we are all in the industry. I didn't pay the bill; I wouldn't have tipped her like that just because I wait tables. I know we can be picky as servers eating out but this was ridiculous! We made sure to have drinks with our new server Lauren who goes by LZ2 so that we wouldn't be sitting at her table and not tipping her. LZ2 was GREAT! She was friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and apologetic for our previous server. We closed out with her and moved back outside where Derrick took fabulous care of us! We had planned to speak to a manager before we left but everyone but the DD had a buzz by that time so we decided against it. The food was mediocre, nothing to really complain about. And two of our three servers were great. Jessica was either having a a bad day or needed A LOT MORE TRAINING!!!!

I went to Red's the other night and sat a a table across from the bar. Five or six different employees walked right by me and not one of them greeted me. Apparently the bar tender was supposed to take care of that section but regardless, I sat there for 10 minutes without someone even offering to get my drink order. The hostesses never moved or tried to let a server know that I had been there for awhile. Terrible service.

Awesome place, I try to hit this place up every time work sends me to this area. Even if I'm not doing some work in Charleston, but close by and have the time off, I will go out of my way to come by. Food & service are always top notch. Good dinner specials, and live music on certain nights. It does get busy, so you may have to wait but, just grab a beer and enjoy the view of the Shem creek. Overall, Awesome place, Great food and Good service!

The place was packed when we arrived so there was a bit of a wait to get a table of four. Can't beat all you can eat crab legs on Monday night's! Loved the atmosphere, had an awesome waiter, and delicious food! The waiter came around every five minutes loading the table with more and more crab legs, we were all stuffed! If I am ever in town again, I would love to try out other items on the menu.

Stopped in today for lunch after walking Patriots Point. We were greeted with a smile and sat out by the creek. The out door dining / bar was a great place to eat. I had the Shrimp and grits and the wife had a blackened Grouper sandwich. Our food was served fast and hot. The Shrimp and Grits were some of the best out there. The flavor was spot on and creamy good. The Grouper was also seasoned perfectly and melted Swiss cheese added another level to this wonderful meal. All around a great place with great food and service. We will be back.

Despite what others feel about this place, I would have to say this place was wonderful! I had a craving for shrimp and this place more than satisfied that craving. The location is awesome, the food was cheap and delicious! Great service and no wait!

Scoped out the place before company comes in this weekend. Seating on Friday night was less 10 minutes. Wait staff was generally attentive. Food was acceptable. Not anything outstanding but above typical bar fare. View was nice and it was a dynamic atmosphere to enjoy the evening. We will go back again.

No great shakes. Since this is my one and only visit, it is a crap shoot concerning the right dish at the right time. Lobster and corn dip was quite acceptable. Needed a touch of Tabasco. Wife carries a few packets in her purse. A dash of heat and flavor and the problem is solved. She crab soup wasn't particularly complex but is quite acceptable. Low country boil. 5 shrimp, small cubes of boiled potato and a few rounds of seasoned sausage. 10 bucks. Ouch. The building is rustic (good). Tables in nooks and alcoves. Fun place to hang, sip a brew or two, eat a sandwich and watch it get dark

Good food with a great view. We have seen dolphins every visit. Great shrimp and grits and unique appetizers.

I decided to give Red's another shot... It is a good place if all you want is a bottled beer to sip and watch the water and maybe see a few dolphins. The wait staff was friendly. If I couldn't get a table looking at the water after I finished my first beer, I would walk out. The fried food was decent, but not at all veggie friendly. I had to order the nachos, and don't wish that abomination on my worst enemy (soggy chips drowned in watered down queso topped with lettuce and the "salsa" was literally a teaspoon). DON"T VISIT THE BATHROOMS if you can help it. My visits to the restroom featured ambient sounds of someone puking their guts out in the stall next door (middle of the day).

This place is in an awesome spot. You can sit right on Shem Creek and in just a few minutes see dolphins playing in the water, all kinds of birds and boats going by. Lots of people kayaking and paddleboarding. I'd say this is a nice sit down spot to get some drinks and hang out, because the food wasn't anything special. Not bad though!

Went with my husband and baby daughter for early dinner around 4. Not too busy, fast & friendly service, GREAT food!!! Will definitely come back on our next vacation to the area!!!

Wish there was something more on the menu that would have screamed at me more than what I had. I was super hungry and just couldn't find something that would have had more variety than either this entree with one side or what have you. The chipotle tartar was surprising but my least favorite style of tartar sauce. (Tarragon I believe)

I've been here a few times and every time it was good. This time, not so much. Food was just warm and service was ultra slow. I got the 1/2lb of peel and eat shrimp. Being a local/sea island native, when I think peel and eat shrimp, I think of steaming hot shrimp, piled up. What I got was a tiny bowl of cold shrimp. While they were large, I was just expecting a bit more. That's on me I guess. The wife got fish and chips, they were all barely warm.

Fae W.
Zero star if possible. My worst restaurant experience. Bad service, slow no sense of urgency, bad management they did not care about the customer's experience (I asked to speak to the manager but no one ever showed up). The best part was the view. I will never go back.

Love the atmosphere. Arrived at 11am on a wednesday. Not crazy busy--laid back at that time but hops as day n night goes on-- so we were told. Tuna on the cucumber salad was great!!!! Mac n lobster was best my husb has ever head. Orange crushes were good too.

It's a cool location but that's about it. The bartenders seemed a little unfriendly, aside from one that was nice and talkative. The bouncer with a "faux-hawk" kept walking around and staring at everyone like he was about to beat someone up. He actually walked past me and bumped into me pretty good and I actually said, "excuse me" to him even though he saw me standing there. He just stared at me blankly and kept walking. That kind of attitude and behaviour by a bouncer can ruin a bar/restaurant, no matter how nice it might be. And the bathroom was unreasonably nasty. A trough for a urinal isn't really what adults prefer. It was like a big sink with no running water. Pee all over the floor. If they made the bathrooms nicer and had a warmer atmosphere, I'd definitely go back. I will only go back if I have no other choice.

Red's is in a really neat location on Shem's Creek and has excellent waterfront views. The atmosphere is fun and they have decent happy hour specials. The food was ok I'm sure there are better seafood places in Charleston but this one was affordable. I got the bucket of oysters and spent the next 30 minutes shucking oysters... it was a lot of work... kinda fun, but was very good they were fresh. My wife had the fish and chip and they were sub par. Good place to have some drinks, some appetizers and some jokes. If that is what you are looking for you will be happy with Red's.

BEST grouper sandwich in the Charleston area - maybe even ever. (Go for grilled instead of fried so you can taste what you came for) Phenomenal bloody mary's! Fun, fun, fun atmosphere with a beautiful view overlooking Shem Creek. This is one of the signature spots of the area - take in the sights of the water, eat great seafood, enjoy good company, and have a little "cheer" while you're at it. They have really happening happy hours and this is a top spot for football Sunday since they have about a million TVs (or at least it seems that way).
(5)
Francesca J.
Great place to hang on a warm day. We sat at the outdoor first level bar. View was great, drinks were cold and service was good. They had a nice tropical cocktail list, that you can get by the pitcher! I will always make it a point to come here on my visits to Charleston.
(5)
Robbie A.
I love this place, this is a good seafood place on the water in charleston. They have great chicken fingers and fries if your looking for a good seafood place I would say that this is the place for you, but I don't know what kind of food you like, I like this place! They have another location near Edisto Island, not on Edisto Island. I can't rember the name of the island! I've never been to the other location, I've just went to their website one time and saw it.

The term " you get what you pay for " isn't even true here. Food was less than OK. Menu pictured a lobster sandwich with chunks of lobster meat but came out with celery salad with an hit of minced lobster. Low country boil that was suggested by our waitress was filled with 2 pieces of corn, lots of potatoes and some shrimp that was tough. We were joined by several families of flies. I couldn't bring myself to place my knife on the table with the flies. Service was slow because the waitress had too many tables to take care of. A restaurant that has been in business for this long should either go up on their prices and serve a better product or just be a bar.
(1)
Sam B.
I love this bar! Drinks are great service is friendly and attentive. The crab dip is wonderful and so are the tacos. In general the food is not five-star but it is tasty alongside the great drink specials they offer. Food and drink set aside the views of Shem Creek are fantastic as is the clientele definitely worth a trip to reds!
(4)
Ilka S.
I have absolutely nothing nice to say about our meal and overall experience at this "restaurant" so I will try to keep it brief. I honestly feel like the only reason they are still in business is the location. I really want my 60+ we spent on lunch back. :( Mediocre food with a view is how I would best describe Red's. Sticking with Shem's Creek Grill next time we are in town. They have never failed us, even on their busiest days.

Been here several times since this past winter and it is consistently great when it comes to the food! I have gotten the grouper sandwich multiple times and it is always amazing, crab cakes are great, pitchers of booze are good - their home made chips are a fav, too. If you get anything that has tartar sauce served with it - ask for the chipotle kind - REALLY FREAKING GOOD.
(4)
Julie M.
Fun place to go sit out on the water and enjoy a drink. Our server was great, but the food was so-so. Most of is ordered their grouper sandwich (the signature dish) and it was just okay. I'd go back for their cocktail pitchers, though. And prices are very reasonable.
(3)
Tina R.
Basic nothing to brag about bar food. The fish tacos were dry and the fish was rubber like it was microwaved. My husbands burger was wrong and we had to flag someone down since our server was MIA. When he did get it he said it was good and for our patience (I finished my food about 20 minutes prior) he got a free beer. It's a locals joint with families, kids and dogs lots of dogs. Go for the view not the food.

This was a great referral/recommendation to us while we were visiting South Carolina. I like to break my reviews up in the following manner: 1. Ambiance: bar type scene. Located on the water so the view is great. Nice place to catch a college football game or any other sporting event for that matter. There are TVs through out the facility. 2. Food: the food choices are very ice. Would have expected to see some additional options but not a big issue. We ordered appetizers, entrees, and desert. The food was very tasty and the portion sizes were right on. 3. Service: A+. I did not have to ask for a refill once. The food came out relatively quick. The waitress took the order accurately (via memory - she didn't write anything down). I will definitely visit this location again.

Had the grouper sandwich and some of the fried shrimp. Both were fantastic. Laid back atmosphere and the prices are GREAT.

Went with husband and kids for lunch. We sat inside overlooking the harbor; it was nice to watch the pelicans and boats while dining, and we even saw a couple of dolphins. I had the pimento cheese dip to start - it was thick and creamy with just the right amount of kick. Followed up with the New Orleans BBQ shrimp. The sauce was buttery and delicious but the shrimp were slightly over cooked; they were a bit rubbery. Husband had a low-country boil; his shrimp were perfect, so I guess it's hit and miss. I also had a mango margarita. It was cold and tasty, and really BIG, but a little watered-down. For $8, I expect a little buzz from a giant margarita. Youngest son had the kids fish and chips. The fish was shaped like little starfish, which was fun for him. They were tasty - flaky and firm. Oldest son had the cheese nachos. They were ok - nothing special but I was glad to see something on the kids menu that he'd order other than chicken fingers. Service was good - fast and friendly - and ambience was beach-shacky quirky.

Great waterside views, relaxed atmosphere. We came here midday after spending hours at Patriot Point, looking for food and refreshment. We were hot and tired. Opted fir the inside seating with aif conditioning, but still had a water view.Ordered the Shecrab soup in a bread bowl and the shrimp and grits. Both outstanding! The soup came in a sourdough bread bowl. Super fresh and crusty on the outside, couldnt have been any better. BF loved th ed Shrimp and Grits. Great service. Highly recommend for a nice laid back atmosphere and good, fresh, reasonable seafood and cold beer on the water.

Coming here on vacation from Phoenix, this is a great place for some beers and a chill atmosphere. The walls are all wood, and have lots of cool and old beer signs. This is probably the best part of the place. I came in expecting king crab, lobster, and some pot broils.. Not the case. They had snow crab on the menu, but this is more of a bar with a seafood sandwich emphasis. Guess I should have known by the sign and the name. Icehouse doesn't really scream seafood. All that aside, my girlfriend got the blackened grouper sandwich, and that was top notch. The locals around me were eating fish sandwiches as well. Should have known. Everything else, service, atmosphere, was great. My pot broil however didn't come with a pot and was more in a soup bowl... Anyway, great fish sandwiches, atmosphere, and service.

I will say this is a hoppin' spot...Very crowded and GREAT view of Shem Creek... Food is OK..... Mostly bar food/appetizers/sandwiches etc.... If you can get a seat near the water... then do so... I have been here a few times, never totally impressed with the food. Wait staff is great... The last time, we were up on their upper deck and grabbed a table. No food service up here so we went down to order our food and planned to come back down to pick it up but they were very gracious and carried it up to us... REALLY APPRECIATED that. I had a blackened fish sandwich which was well cooked. I ordered home cut chips, but unless these are European chips... they looked like American French fries... We tried the fried green tomatoes and these were also good. There was fried grouper and fries (gee, they looked just like my home cut chips)... A little greasy.. Overall we had fun and filled out bellies.

It is right on Shem Creek and has a great dive bar atmosphere. The food is just okay and the service is usually slow. The prices are reasonable. If you go after 6 there will be a wait during good weather. Overall, it is a fun place to hang, look at the water and get a drink or two.

After looking at mixed reviews we struggled with trying this dining spot. However, the all you can eat crab special sold us. The only negative part of this restaurant was that they didn't take reservations. With 15 people in our group, we did have quite a wait. Once the crab started rolling in the wait was quickly forgotten. The crab was cooked just right and a was very sweet. The side of coleslaw was said to be quite tasty; however, I decided to stick to the crab. One in our party had she crab soup (good) and killer shrimp (spicy with great flavor). Another got fish tacos which tasted great but were on the small side. As an added surprise, the restaurant hired a musician who played guitar. He sounded amazing and truly added to the fun. All in all we left very satisfied!

I have been going here for years and love it every time. Here are the quick points: The view is awesome here on Shem Creek The people watching is great The food is glorified low country bar food The beers are cold You can bring your dog How can you go wrong? Get here now!

Holy moly! This place is great! The people are very nice and helpful. The Palmetto Burger was delicious. The Fish and Chips was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Some of the best seafood and burgers in Charleston. You also get an incredible view of Shem Creek where you'll see boats, kayakers, and Dolphins swimming about!

Great atmosphere. Live music, outdoor seating and views of the creek. Staff is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Food was delicious. Crab cakes had great flavor and their famous grouper sandwich was amazing and if everything on the menu is that good you can't go wrong. Finished it all off with a piece of key lime pie, which was the perfect fit to complete the meal.

I think this place is "seat yourself" but I didn't think it would mean we would be ignored for half an hour. This place is massive, but we originally sat ourselves at a picnic table by the dock, well within view of the main dining room. Eventually someone came by bearing a couple of menus and asked to take our drink orders, but she was too late, because at that point, the boys had gone to the bar to order their own drinks. We told her they were already at the bar and she disappeared. Eventually, the heat got to be too much and we moved to an empty table in the dining room. It was then we finally got some service and ordered the Coconut Shrimp and Red's Rockin' Crab Dip (we opted to order it hot rather than cold). The coconut shrimp was exceptionally good. The crab dip was decent, though it looked entirely unappetizing -- like a lumpy off-white mess topped with a few pecan pieces and a sprinkling of scallions. If they had been a bit more generous with the garnishes, it might have distracted from the unappetizing look of the dip. The best part of our visit here was getting to see a dolphin playing around in the water.

This review is not for the restaurant but for the booze cruise on Wednesday nights. The cruise went from 7-9 for $35 and served free beer and rum punch. Also had snacks but didn't seem all that impressive and ran out quickly. The views from the boat ride were beautiful. We saw lots of dolphins as well. Well worth it for the boat ride alone.

A friend of mine and I were looking for a place to eat in Mt. Pleasant the other night and we decided to give Red's a shot. The view of Shem Creek is absolutely beautiful and the lighting makes it seem like a wonderful little Havana that is so relaxing and casual. When we were seated we immediately ordered some drinks. They have a great drink menu and we ended up with a pitcher of raspberry firefly sweet tea. It was delicious. We started off with a couple appetizers because everything just sounded really good. We ordered the jalepeno hush puppies and the seafood queso. The queso was pretty good. It was very spicy, and had plenty of meat in it. If you aren't a fan of hot food it's not for you. The jalepeno hush puppies were very good but really greasy. They were served with marinara sauce which I thought was weird at first but it tasted pretty good. We then ordered our entrees. We got the crab cake burger and the shrimp burger. They arrived very quickly, and with a ton of fries. The crab cake burger was excellent. It was fried beautifully and came with a great dill sauce. The fires were a little cold and kind of soggy though. The shrimp burger wasn't nearly as good. It was almost burnt. The breading on the outside was so crispy it was hard. Definitely not the best. The waitress was not very friendly And didn't return to ask us how our food was or if we needed refills. We moved to the bar for a bit to finish our pitcher of firefly sweet tea, and the bartender had ordered a pizza for the waitresses. We decided not to stick around because it seemed like they were all friends. It was an overall decent experience and ill probably not go back on the weekend. I'd rather check it out again on a Wednesday or thursday afternoon.

Red's was our first stop before checking into our Folly Beach house. Our party of 10 was seated within 10 minutes of arriving during lunch time. The waitress took our drink and food orders and announced that we could do separate checks, awesome. I had the Lowcountry Boil mainly because everyone else ordered the Mahi Mahi Tacos and Po'Boy; I wanted to try something different. I forgot how much I hated peeling shrimp until that meal! Nevertheless, the shrimp was fresh, cooked just right, and tasty. The sausage and corn were spiced very well. The potatoes were... just potatoes. Overall I liked my dish and ate everything except for the red skin potatoes. After drinking TWO beers and catching up with our buddies, we asked for our checks. I did a triple take on my check and saw THREE Coronas on my check. C'mon, I wasn't drunk enough to let that slide. Other than the bill situation, I liked Red's. It's a great place for large or small groups to relax and enjoy the warm weather outside.

I enjoyed Red's for a casual lunch outside. It had a good mix of locals and tourists, I especially liked that people could bring their dogs to sit outside with them. That plus the view of Shem Creek was perfect for a nice day. We found it pretty easy to grab a table, some are shaded too which is an added bonus. Since we were on vacation we grabbed a pitcher of the firefly lemonade which was refreshing. It seems that all restaurants in Charleston all have their twist on this :) We split an appetizer of shrimp wrapped in bacon & bbq sauce on skewers. It was great to share but I thought the sauce took away from the shrimp and bacon. Maybe it would have been nice to have on the side in the future. For lunch I had the fish with chips and he had the grouper sandwich, and we both enjoyed it. Fish was fresh and flavorful. They offer a chipotle tartar sauce but I didn't really think it was flavorful. However the service wasn't my favorite. Our waitress was a little snippy at first when I grabbed a table after she told me it was open seating. Usually I don't get peeved on the little things but she just wasn't really pleasant at all and didn't really make recommendations when I asked her questions on the menu. Just because I'm a tourist and you're a pretty girl doesn't mean you deserve 20%.. is it bad that I said that out loud? oops.

Great food! Wait time can be a bit sometimes. Only issue I had with them was when the new $100 bills came out they were making an issue taking it. I had to wait like 10 mins to make sure it wasn't a counterfeit bill. That was pretty rude and my service was bad the rest of the night. I don't tip cocky bartenders so I hope they learned their lesson. Other than that the atmosphere is awesome and my wife and I enjoy the place!

I come here for the view not the food. This place reminds me of Charleston in so many ways, and I usually make a stop after a trip to the Isle of Palms. Generally - best to come during the middle of the day/afternoon to avoid the happy hour/meat market scene - Understand that the food comprises of bar selections -Fried food is your best bet - Grab a seat by the water and watch the boats and dolphins Again, I like to visit this place during the day when its not so busy and can really tune into my environment.

We had a group of Cub Scouts visiting the USS Yorktown and were looking for somewhere to grab a bite. A scouting buddy suggested Red's. BOY, what a great piece of advice! The menu is not really wide, but the basic items, shrimp, oysters, crab and fish are really good and cooked very well. The setting is very casual and the service was perfect! They do not offer combo platters with a mixture of items like shrimp, oysters and crab together. Might be a good addition. Members of our party had salads, peel and eat shrimp, fried shrimp and fried oysters. Everyone said the food was great and a VERY reasonable price. Well worth a visit!

Love this place on the creek. What more can you ask for than beer and seafood out on the deck. The reason I am not giving this place a perfect grade is because of the limited beer selection (have micro brews made it to the south yet?), and for the smokers on the deck (SC needs to ban smoking in bars). Other than that, this place is just right.

My absolute favorite bar in the WORLD and as a sailor I have been to many. The food is awesome! Try the seafood queso. Also for a seafood place the chicken strips are great and they also do a really good hamburger. The beers are ALWAYS "make your teeth" hurt cold. You can bring your dog, your kids, your Grandma...it's that kinda of laid back place. Beautiful view of Shem Creek, plus you get the extra added entertainment of watching the Bubbas try to cast off their boats after a few. The staff and management are very friendly and attentive. It's just over all the best bar I've ever been to and when I lived in Charleston it was my number one hangout.

Location, location, location. Great bar on the creek with patio and music on the weekends. Food can be so so but, it's a great bar for friends, local bands and an awesome time.

The location is great and it can be fun. If you're looking for a meat market full of frat types, you have found it. If you are looking for a really good meal with good service, I'm not so sure. The she crab soup is ok, but I have had better. The service here can be rude. It is much more of a bar than a restaurant.

Red's is a great location to spend anytime of day at, weather permitting. (as in-if its rainy and/or cold, dont go). People that go to Red's vary from young professionals to bikers, the attendees you will come across at Red's, spares no boundaries. If you go on a particularly busy day, it may take a few minutes to get a beer, if your not a regular, but be patient. This bar sells more Budweiser products than any other bar in the state of South Carolina and the bartenders are all super professional and lightning fast, tipping well will benefit you in your future returns. It is a dog friendly establishment, so bring Spike and Ruffles, its all one big happy family! There is plenty of seating if your not doing the bar thing and care just to indulge in their menu. To give a snapshot's worth of information on that, no menu item is extraordinary, no menu item will disappoint. There are 3 levels (decks) so if your are a first timer, walk around the restaurant and explore a little, you will soon find a place to hang your hat and lay down your coaster.

Everyone kept talking about how great this place is so I finally decided to try it out. I absolutely LOVE this place! The food is delicious and the drinks are really good! We got a pitcher of margaritas and it was amazing!!! The staff is very friendly and I love how it is right next to the water.

This place is a huge summertime hangout. It is a good place to drink tap beer and hang by the water. Upon entering it takes a few minutes to get situated, as there are many nooks and crannies to hang out. Sort of a maze-like layout with indoor and outdoor seating areas. There seemed to be a motley mix of families, couples, and singles frequenting the place, which had some college ball going on on a few of the TV's near the bar. It also became blatantly obvious to me that the owner or manager requires his waitresses to be attractive and to wear ultra tight clothing. Folks rave about the burgers, and I will admit, they are good. Had the pimento cheeseburger and it was fantastic. The fries were just ok, but the burger was great. I originally ordered what looked like a killer turkey burger with roasted red peppers and arugula, and they were out of it...total bummer. I look forward to trying that turkey burger soon. They also had a great selection of tap and bottle beers.

You don't come here for the food. However, I had the Killer Shrimp and it wasn't half bad. Nice atmosphere, people even brought their dogs in the restaurant. There was live music on a Thursday night. It was loud, so you may want to specify that you don't want to be seated near the music. Come as you are, all day and all night. Seriously, we stayed across from this place at the Shem Creek Inn, and this place went off around the clock. Look for dolphins/porpoises in the creek!

We're new in town. Our friends visiting from Columbia wanted to eat along Shem Creek. The first place we tried had a 30 minute wait, so we found this place by happenstance. Very glad we did. It seems like it could be a really fun place. It was very chill on the day we were there (a sunny early January afternoon) but I can easily imagine it building up quite a lively crowd. I liked the open wall for indoor/outdoor seating. I had the sliders sampler: one each of seared tuna, crabcake, fried grouper, and the traditional beef burger. All were quite tasty. If i remember correctly, they don't have beer on tap. But the bottles are cold. I look forward to returning as soon as it warms up again.

Five stars for location on the canal. One star for food leaving much to be desired. Average comes to 2 stars since food is more important. Don't get the grouper sandwich, it smells and tastes fishy. Don't get the hush puppies, they are burned and funky. Don't get the seafood or crab dips, you'd be better off taking shots of straight up salt. Get the oysters they're great...oh wait they ran out of oysters.

The best part of this restaurant is the top bar and view overlooking Shem Creek for the sunset. The service is great. All of the employees have a smile on their faces and do not mind splitting checks for big parties. The food is good but not amazing, The Baja Tacos and BBQ shrimp skewers are recommended. You can also sport very casual attire or dress up here. Really loved being able to walk in with a party of ten and have them able to accommodate. Would recommend going when the weather is nice, it was pretty cold but last time I went it was BEAUTIFUL!!! Also love the atmosphere of the outdoors seating and the outdoor bar. Parking is plentiful but fills up fast, however it's free!,

Don't go there for the food. The view is good, but the food is sub-par. They offer a seafood chowder. I asked what it was and the reply was oyster chowder. That sounded good, so I ordered it. When it arrived, I thought they had given me the wrong chowder. The waitress assured me it was oyster chowder. My thought was, where are the oysters? Was all potato and corn and no oysters. I complained to the management as I left, writing on my receipt that it was a rip-off. They said that it had an oyster in it. You could not tell it by me. I got the fried shrimp. They were kind of spongy, not firm. They were nothing special. The price was OK; but if you want a good fried shrimp meal, this is not the place.

Let me be honest. I have NEVER ate here. But, this is one of the coolest bars ive ever been to. It sits on the water with folks pulling up in there boats with there dogs to grab a drink. The night we went there was a great band playing and people having an extraordinary time. The place was just a open air blast. Go in the summer for sure.

The angus burger was most and juicy , and a full half pound - slaw was a little bit different tasting than most, the Amstel Light was icy cold, sportsbar type environment was good for me as well , several TVs with various games -

I've been here three times now. The last time was October 8, 2011. What is great about it is that you can bring your dogs in with you to sit by your table as you sip a beer and have a sandwich and not have to leave them in the car. But, I had a bad experience the last time that pissed me off. We were a party of 7 with two dogs. The only table big enough in the main area is a round one right in front of the door where servers go in and out. So, I figured we would pull together a couple of the four-tops out on the perimeter. Wrong! This blonde waitress yelled at us nastily and said we couldn't do that. I'm sorry, but I believe that making your customers comfortable helps pay those salaries. I would have left right then if I wasn't with others that I had invited to lunch. So, we ended up sitting at the round table with the dogs getting up every time a server stepped around them and I had to ask them to lie back down. Very uncomfortable lunch. The owners probably don't care and don't even read these reviews. But, there are better restaurants around and I won't be back because of that waitress.

Food is super simple, but yummy. A little pricey, but they can be on mt pleasant... The crazy large patio is pet friendly. Service was nothing to write home about, but nothing to make me frown either. I give it four instead of three because were i a local i could see this being where id hang with friends and knock back a few, and the pups could come too :)

Great location on the water where you can have a cold beer and watch the dolphins play in the creek....Must try the Grouper sandwich and buffalo fried shrimp....menu is limited...but it's a bar...w bar food...also can bring your dog...

I have to say right off, I really liked this place. It reminds me of a casual seafood bar I like in Atlanta. But the food is obviously more fresh here. It sits on the creek where the boats bring in the day's catch. It's a great place to get buckets of both shellfish and beer. It's relaxed and fun. The oysters are great. Service is attentive. It seems like a place the locals would hang out at, but I'm not one of them so I don't officially know. My wife and I split a bucket of oysters and the low country boil. I would easily go back (probably for the same combo). Plus, it's off the peninsula so parking is a breeze. The only complaints might be that the shrimp were difficult to peel and the door by our table was drafty. Neither one of those would stop me from returning; I'm just being honest. I'll definitely be back - no question about it.

Ordered the fish and chips. Was very unimpressed in the amount of food given and the freshness of the fish. The trays they served it in were soaked in grease and the fries were over salted. I guess I'm very particular about my seafood living in Charleston, but for this beautiful location on Shem Creek I expected better.

I generally love these places. Look at my reviews, I'm not picky if the food is hot and the servers are friendly. This is the worst fried oyster I have ever eaten. I honestly don't know what they did to screw it up so bad. It was almost like it had been reheated in a fryer more than once. Honestly a canned oyster would have been better. I own several fried food restaurants, something was way wrong at this place. I had not eaten a lot of South Carolina oysters and thought maybe it's how they prepare them. I ordered some later that day at Banana Cabana that were perfect. The location and the staff were great. The food was really iffy. I should have sent my food back. If tit weren't for the location I would have given it a 1 star.

Good food. Fun, laid back atmosphere. right on the water. Looks at restaurants on the other side of the marina. Looks like you could dock your boat and hop off for good food. People were in boat clothes and casual attire. Would go back, for sure.

I love Reds and how can you not? Chill with friends along Shem Creek, people watch and bring your dog(s)!! Heaven on earth. Sip a cold one in the afternoon while you watch the dolphin play in the creek. The food is ok but that's really not why you'd go there - it's the ambiance - young, vibrant, fun, relaxed (must love dogs)... Drinks are always cold and people are always smiling. What more could you want?

Do Not Run a Tab.... Bartenders & Barmaids Have a Scam Going with Bar Bills! This situation has happened to me twice and to more friends than I care to count. If you are at Red's for two hours or more and run up a bar tab of over $20, you will find that additional drinks are added to your tab. This is done on purpose and the ill gotten gains are divided up amongst the bar staff - including the bar manager. They believe that they can get away with this because a large portion of the patrons are tourists and will not return anyway, many people do not pay attention to their bill, few will want to risk getting police involved because they are driving home, and because the entire bar staff will back them up if caught. This practice is common on Friday and Saturday nights and has been going on for years. If you do decide to drink at Red's Ice House, PAY AS YOU GO! Better yet, go to RB's next door where the view, service, prices, and food are much better.

Good food, nice view.....we sat outside on the deck with a view of Shem Creek....plenty of boat traffic and even saw a couple of dolphins......a little pricey, but quality of food was good.....not GREAT. I had the Baked Mahi Mahi stuffed with blue crab with sides of collards(delicious)....well seasoned and stone ground grits. Worthwhile place to have an enjoyable dinner.

Great service. Good food. Great atmosphere. Took our family of 7 and all 5 kids lived it. Kids meals come on a frisbee you can take home. Great view over the inlet/river. Will be back for a date night to hang out without the kids next time we are in town.

Lived in Charleston for 7 years and have been here numerous times. Let's all admit the only reason you go here is to either tie up your boat in Shem creek and grab a drink or to meet up with friends and drink. You go for the location, not the food. You go to sit on the deck and soak up the sun or enjoy the night air. Their mixed drinks are usually short poured or from the bottle mixes that just don't sit well with so much sugar. Best to just get a bucket of beer. Went this past weekend with friends and enjoyed sitting on the deck. I think all the food I've ever eaten here has been bar food and pretty gross in terms of actual flavor. If they're in season, the steamed or raw oysters are good. On my last visit I got the warm crab dip, which despite the name may have had only one tiny piece of crab meat hidden within it somewhere. Pretty disappointing. Most of the fried seafood is pretty disappointing as well. But again, you only go here to drink some beers with friends because it's a nice location. The server we had this last time was really b*tchy about everything we did. I think we saw her twice the whole 3 hours we were there. We had to go get a new bucket of beer on our own after she didn't stop by for over an hour. When she did show herself, she acted really mad that we would dare get another round without her assistance. She then rushed us to suddenly close out because her shift was ending. We would have been content to be there an hour and a half at most, but we could never find our server. A Charleston college hangout or a place to grab a beer with friends to enjoy the nice weather, but definitely not a good place for a true taste of Charleston seafood.

If there's fresher shrimp in Mt. Pleasant, I've not found it yet. I've been to RB's and the Crab House and a few other places around and have been disappointed by every one of them but Red's. A safe (and affordable) bet that I always get at Red's is the Shrimp & Fries basket. It's only around $9 and has 12 very yummy battered and fried (and fresh and local) shrimp. The hush puppies are sweet and spicy with chunks of Jalapeno Pepper, too. Pair these with a tall glass of sweet tea or a brew, and top it all off with the awesome location right on Shem Creek and you've got a small slice of paradise right here in Mount Pleasant.

I went here on a Saturday afternoon to grab a bite with some friends. Being a nice day, we wanted to sit outside and a friend suggested Red's. I was completely disappointed by everything except the service. Our waitress was nice, friendly, and quick. HOWEVER, my food (oyster po-boy) and my friends' food (fish tacos) was nearly terrible. And it's not that it was prepared poorly or that this was some mistake; it appeared as though the we received fairly typical meals that just didn't taste good (well, except for the french fries). Even my unsweet tea was bad enough that I had to switch to another drink. I'd recommend going only if you are having a beer or something else that isn't prepared there.

Used to go here all the time back when I lived in Mount P. It's great for large groups of friends. They have happy hour specials on food & beer as well. Fried oysters & beer are a local standard in happy hour fare. If you have a boat (as my buddy did) you can even pull it right up to the restaurant, grub and drink, and sputter home (safely). There's not much else going on here. Best times to come are Friday afternoons / early evening in the summer, when everyone is getting off work and wants to unwind in the gorgeous weather.

We recently visited family in the area and when we asked for a casual place on the water they took us here. They don't have beer on top but they do have buckets and we sat by the water drinking buckets of Corona in the sun. The atmosphere is great and there are constantly boats of all shapes and sizes coming an going from the pier which makes for great scenery. This is the type of bar where you want to spend your Saturday's or your lazy Sunday afternoon's. We ordered some shrimp and a lobster corn dip that was great. We would be there every weekend if we lived in the area. This location will definitely not disappoint.

The meal was fine for bar food but the location is really the key. I was there for lunch, and it's a good place to take in the activities of boaters and dolphins. I bet it's a good spot to have drinks at night. I ordered the crab cake sandwich, which was good. My sister's white fish was thick on the batter, which would be fine (or even great) if it had more flavor and less grease. The lobster dip appetizer was tasty, but the chips that came with it were kind of stale. If I were a local, I would probably try some of the other restaurants at Shem Creek, because this one is a bit overpriced for what it is.

Red's is a fun place to sample a little Charleston local cuisine and enjoy some local flavor in the atmosphere. Its right on the water at Shem Creek and is such a fun spot to go and grab a drink. Also, you can take your dog, or pull up with your boat...if you have either! It's a fun place, check it out

I'm giving this review 2 stars bc I had the fried shrimp and it was good (hard to mess that up..). Overall, this is a party restaurant. The bar areas were packed and we had two large parties sharing a dining area with us. The room we were on was probably 80 degrees in temp. After a long day of walking around downtown- we wanted some AC w/ our dinner. The prices are low- but you get what you pay for!! The low country boil my Mom and husband ordered was served in a small bowl and their food was floating in dark water. My mom got exactly 5 pieces of shrimp, but tons of potatoes. My husband got 4 pieces of shrimp in his. It looked gross, sitting in that dark "stew." So- 9.95 buys you that. I'd rather pay the extra $5 that other places charge and get a good-sized meal. Our waitress was really nice and did say that the room we were in "is always this hot.." Totally not her fault, and and she was really great. Just steer clear of the back room and don't order the low county boil and you'll likely have a better experiment than we did.

Good place to get a drink. I have sampled a few menu items: - Nachos were not great - Grilled shrimp were pretty good - Fried shrimp are OK - Fish and chips were OK Overall Red's is decent. The location is the real star of the show.
You don't come to this place if you're a foodie. You come to this place for the novelty and because you're with a big group of friends. Red's is a little loud and ridiculous. The service is what it is at a loud and ridiculous place, that is to say they're struggling to keep up, although they make a valiant effort. The menu is constrained by similar limitations, basically fine, but unmemorable.

Hit Red's for a beer and bite after a long morning at the beach on Isle of Palms. They are definitely dog-friendly, had no problem getting a table on the deck with our dog along. They brought her a bucket of water while we got a bucket of beer (6), along with a 1/2 pound of peel & eat shrimp and chips and salsa. Shrimp were fresh and tasty and the Lovely Laura's Sexy Salsa was very tasty. The deck was under a big awning, so it was cool, a great place to relax and enjoy a beer. We went back to Red's a second time for a full lunch. It was the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and the place was packed. We decided to grab a table in the bar while waiting on a table on the deck. Got another bucket of beer, still a great deal, $20 for 6 beers, and ordered some jalapeno hush puppies to hold us over during the estimated 45 minute wait. Hush puppies were great, and there were at least a dozen. Really more than we expected, and really filling. Even though the bar was hopping, the bartenders were attentive, checked on us several times and refilled waters without asking. When the buzzer went off for our table, we were led out on the covered patio/deck again and settled in. Lots of dogs on the deck that day, and the table behind us had a pet Parrot and duck! Again, a pet friendly place is my kind of place. My wife was pretty full from the hush puppies, so she settled on the 1/2 dozen fried shrimp basket while I went for the full dozen fried oyster basket. The shrimp were a bit smaller than she expected after the peel & eat from earlier, but it was still plenty for her and tasty. The oysters were definitely a baker's dozen. Nothing fancy, just fried to a golden brown and served with a good, spicy cocktail sauce. French fries with both dishes were seasoned, hot and tasty. There's nothing fancy about Red's, and I'm sure many people will find better sea food, but it's laid back, on the water, loud, with good food and reasonable beer. Service is above average. My kind of place!

The crab dip left a bit to be desired - a bit bland. The fish and chips were good, but standard, nothing special. It's a great vibe though and drinks are pretty cheap - I mean 13$ pitchers for mixed drinks, AWESOME. It's not a must go, but it's not bad, I would (and probably will) go again.

Loved Red's!!! Went on a Monday and it was all you cam eat crab legs. I could barely finish what I had in front of me before the server bought out more. Awesome!! They have a gorgeous area outside to sit and eat by the water.

Red's Ice House appears to be a local AND tourist favorite there in Mt. Pleasant. We enjoyed all of our visits there before and during our daughter's wedding in early June. The food was great, service was mostly good, and they provided much of the food catered for the wedding next door at the Lighthouse on the Creek. Our only shock was during high tide, when we came out to find our cars in about 10-12" of water in the parking lot. So, if you're planning to patronize this place, check your tide charts before you go! Other than that, love the place AND the doggie welcome.

Great place to eat a great meal and people watch. What you will not get at this restaurant is an expansive food selection with a lot of variety but the good selections they do have are quite good for a primarily bar locale. My group had the fried shrimp and grilled scallops and everyone agreed that the dishes tasted great. The shrimp and scallops were very large and filling. Since the restaurant is located next to the water where the shrimp ships dock I have no doubt that the shrimp I ate was swimming in the ocean the day before. Friendly service with good beer selection (several domestic and foreign brands). I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a relaxed place to eat, relax, and watch the boats come in from from the harbor.

The menu was decent and the ambiance was cool because you will be outside or near outside almost wherever you sit. They have a pretty bad beer selection, it's a bit expensive and it feels very touristy. The service was good and the people were friendly.

Okay, so don't really go here for the food. I mean, it's passible but you can definitely find better food in the area. But for drinks and a fun party atmosphere that ranges from laid back to a little wild, this is a great spot! We had a good time hanging out in their "Tree House", watching the sunset, the people, the boats and the dolphins. We liked how everyone seemed really laid back and many had their dogs with them. I did enjoy their fried shrimp but I wouldn't try to get anything fancier than that! I found the staff to be generally friendly and I liked how they'll shuttle you back to your car if you have to park in their far lot (this place gets busy!) We did see some families out here early in the evening and it seemed like a fun place to bring kids before it gets a little crazy. I would say it's a must-do if you like beer and people watching!

Good atmosphere-fun place to be w/a bunch of friends. Foods good but you go for the location. Almost everything is fried so you gotta be up for that. If you're from the South, you probably are. If from California, maybe not so much.

I suppose I'm a regular here, I go every Wednesday for trivia. I would recommend checking out the restaurants across the creek for good food, and then coming here for a few drinks. The food here is classic "bar food" and if you do decide to eat here, don't expect too much. They only serve bottles which I always find kind of weird, but they have an OK beer selection (and sometimes have specials). The service is always very good here, even when it's packed. The best part about Red's is the location and the double-decker style outdoor area they have. I can't wait to go in the summer!

We ate there Christmas eve lunch, thought the food was fine. Especially after a morning spent kayaking.

I love Red's. The atmosphere is great. Right on Shem Creek. The staff is always great. The food is good not great. Make this a stop for a casual unassuming dinner or a place to hang with friends and you will enjoy it.

Four stars for the atmosphere and beer. You don't come here for the food. The restaurant is right on Shem Creek. From beat Boston Whalers to brand new Protectors, boats dock on the restaurant's pier and patrons walk-up to the bar. In the summer it's always slammed. This is the type of bar you get home-sick for on the West Coast.

I love this place they're dog friendly and they have excellent specials on snow crab and bloody marys. To find out about their specials read the City Paper they're always in there. Be careful though if you drive there be sure you're not parking in the lot for RB's or he'll tow your buns outta there! Literally Ronnie Boals is oft in the lot cursing out people parking in his spaces and going to Reds...

This is the kind of place that makes you want to live here and work here. Well, not so much work here! But if you HAD to work, how cool would it be to tell your friends/coworkers to meet you at Red's on some regularly-scheduled evening. The seating is COOL, the views are great, the ambiance is FUN, the service is good. The food isn't gourmet but it fits the casual nature of the place. What a great place for a bucket of beers and, in season, a bucket of oysters (they serve it with two gloves and a knife so you can open your own if you get them steamed). Free shrimp on Thursdays will keep you happy, too. Definitely worth an evening! I agree with the other post - this is pretty unique to the East Coast (friendly clientele, casual, happy, inexpensive) and, though its a "party" place, appropriate for families with children above the age of about 8. Oh - the parking - make sure you park in a RED's lot or you'll be towed!

Birthday request - Shrimp and Grits at Red's Ice House please... still super good. Hit the spot and then some! Did venture to try the she crab soup - however my recommendation is to skip it. It is "soup-er" broth-y and thin. The few small chunks of crab had shell on them - which means it's definitely made with crab. They brought me out another cup after I mentioned it was too thin and she said the chef just added some butter crackers. It was thicker but still had shell and just not good especially for 5 bucks. Husband ordered the Lowcountry Broil - he said it was good but too much work to shell your shrimp. I tasted the broth and almost gagged - and sucked down some sweet tea to change the flavor. Too fishy and dirt -ie for me. Very earth-ie. Kids still love their shrimp skewers grilled... dolphins did not disappoint!! oh and I love venturing out mid-week to great restaurants... just saying...

I love this place for getting a cold drink on a hot day. It's awesome because even though you're outside in the middle of summer, you seem refreshed and cooled off. The food isn't 5 stars or anything, but you go here for the atmosphere. It's close to the water and you can see dolphins from the bar. Love this place!

My buddy took me here saying it was his favorite place to go in Charleston. I have to say, I did enjoy the scenery, the view, and the atmosphere. And it wasn't too expensive either.
This place has only location going for it. The food is nothing to brag about. Lobster roll was all lettuce and came with stale old tasteless French fries on an ungrilled old bun. They have no craft beer. I was very unimpressed for my first meal in South Carolina. Disappointing.

Loved this place! I got coconut shrimp and they were amazing! The view of the water and sunset is great! They also have drinks in these little buckets that were great!

Great hang out place. Drinks not that strong, but cheap. We saw a band called The Secret and they were seriously awesome. I would definitely base my weekend off where they will perform b/c I love good live music. Overall, great experience and will return when I'm back in town. Oh, they have fireworks for the fourth. The Tiki bar drinks were a little bigger & more expensive than the other bar.

When we were planning on visiting Charleston, we were advised to visit Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. On the last evening of our trip, we did just that, and ended up at Red's. In a funny coincidence, Red's is where local news station Channel 5 has their "live cam." There's a nice view of the harbor from Red's, and from all of the businesses operating out of the Shem Creek area. I'm guessing that this place actually once was an ice house where fisherman brought their catches to be sold and stored. There's still a lot of that going on, and the creek is lined with seafood restaurants, charters, and hotels. It's a nice, swampy area, but be sure to plan for "No-see-ums" and other flying, biting insects that live in the nearby wetlands. Since we were there to dine, we tried to find "vegetarian" options. This is not a vegetarian restaurant, and the options are few. We expected that. Nonetheless, we did find nice nachos on the menu, and a good assortment of alcoholic beverages. You do not need to eat meat to enjoy the sunset from Shem Creek as the harbor goes to sleep for the night, and the nightlife wakes up. We shared what Red's calls, "Good Ol' Nachos." It was your simple, ordinary nachos except that the cheese sauce was creamier so that it didn't glue all the chips together. That was nice because it made it easy to pick chips neatly with a fork. That's good for sharing. Also, with the saucier sauce, everything on the nachos gets better coverage. To make this better, however, they need to put a little bit more on top like more salsa and more pico de gallo. The toppings were kind of thin, and they charge extra for extra sauce. One nice surprise for me was this "Illusive Traveler" that I ordered. It is a grapefruit-flavored beer beverage that I found very tasty and refreshing. I really liked it, and hope I can find it back home. My big disappointment with the place was the noise. The area is small, and the roofs are low, (former ice house meant to hold air in?), so that, even with the doors wide open to the patio, just one or two extra loud drunks can make the place unbearable for everyone else. That happened to us. The table next to us, and next to the door had three people who were extremely obnoxious. They were literally yelling across the table to their friends. Their noise made it noisy for other people who ended up having to yell over that noise to their friends, too. In short, my ears were ringing, and I was not pleased. Granted, it is not the fault of Red's that people get noisy when they get drunk, but it is good to know if you would prefer a quieter, more romantic atmosphere to enjoy the Sunset. Try to get outside on the deck, and hope for the best. If you can't, you'd probably do better to walk down the dock. There is quite a variety of choices, and no one has to settle on any one. On the good side, the prices were reasonable, the beverages were fair, and the specials were worth looking at. The service was nice, too, and, if not for the obnoxious patrons, this would have been a very nice place to wind down for the evening.

We ordered the oyster bucket for $14 they came in clusters. I'm assuming they came from the river. They were "steamed oysters". The water stunk of murky lake water and there was residue of mud and some gunk on the outside of the shells. Inside probably 6 of the oysters there were small tiny red crabs. DON'T eat them. They are very salty and we felt sick the morning after. The lobster mac and cheese was decent but I wasn't impressed.

Great atmosphere with most of the restaurant on outside decking along Shem Creek. My wife is very sensitive to cold and was quite comfortable under one of the many heating lamps. Red's has my wife's favorite nachos in Charleston. They are my second favorite in Charleston next to Taco Boys. Happy hour is Monday-Friday 4-7 with $2.50 domestics (bottles only, they don't have taps for some reason) and $4 wells and wine. The atmosphere is worth going alone for a drink. They just so happen to have really good food also.

Surprise its a seafood place with a view, and the most expensive entree I saw on the menu was 11.95, unless you opt for all you can eat crab legs which they have on Monday nights for 30.00. I had the low country boil aka frog more stew. It was good, but I would pay a few more $ for a little more food. It was spicy, but not set your mouth on fire spicy. The sausage, potatoes and corn were great, but the shrimp were slightly over cooked. We had fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, and they were great. My husband had a chicken sandwich with pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes on it. The pimento cheese was fabulous! Service was spotty. Parking is a challenge, because they share a lot with two other creek front restaurants.

We were looking for a dive bar atmosphere on the water to eat some seafood and found exactly what we were looking for here. I ordered a grilled tuna salad, and although it wasn't the best I've ever eaten, for $11.95, it was a pretty good deal. The tuna was grilled well and had good flavor, it just seemed to be hacked up a little rather than a expert slice. Still, the server was such a cute personable guy I really didn't notice the food. Too bad he was too young and had a gf. :( We sat on the heated patio and it was actually warmer outside on the patio then in the restaurant. Just a tip.

Seated quickly, fast and friendly service. I ordered the $14 bucket of steamed oysters, and it was worth it. The bucket was packed with amazing oysters. Just what I had hoped for. We also ordered fried green tomatoes, which were really greasy, so unless that is your preference stay away from them. The 1/2 pound crab leg order was really good, but a bit expensive for what amounts to one crab leg. Overall, a pleasant experience. We didn't sample the bar, so I can't comment on that.

Red's atmosphere was delightful, and the food was excellent. Our server was friendly and responsive, and our kids received just the right amount of attention. (They were clearly welcome but not fawned over.) The warm crab dip was delicious - our youngest scarfed it down before we got more than a couple of bites, and our shortage had nothing to do with portion. My blackened grouper sandwich was outstanding. The fish portion was extremely generous. My husband was disappointed in the Low Country boil, which was overlooked, as previous commenters indicated, but his scallop skewer was amazing! (Next time, we're leaning toward that as entree. The kids meals were all over the map. The burger was fresh, and our oldest said it was delicious. The fish nuggets were overdone and appeared to be commercially processed. The chicken fingers, though, were two lightly breaded whole chicken breasts! The fries were fresh and delicious. Kids meals also include free Pepsi products, all at less than $5 each. The $13 Red's Deck Punch pitcher was a good value, if heavy on the coconut, and it's hard to mess up $2.50 PBR.

I can't believe I've never reviewed Red's after all the times we've been there. It's the perfect pub atmosphere. You can't beat the location/views. We LOVE going there to hang out at dockside. It's a great place to watch football and bring out of town friends. Everyone loves this atmosphere. Probably the best atmosphere in the entire Charleston area. The food is quite good, always fresh. The one downside is the mixed drinks. In both Red's I've found the mixed drinks VERY weak and not worth the money.

I've been to reds numerous time and the service as well as food has been satisfactory. Today I went and we sat at the bar. We got beers and menus within a few minutes. It took over 20 minutes before my friend got impatient and hollered at them to take our order. If they would have been super busy I would have understood but it wasn't. The service sucked due to the fact that BOTH bartenders were texting and especially the girl. She had her back turned to the customers most of the time. As for the food it came out quickly but was was over cooked and the fries were soggy. I've always liked reds but will definately not be going back for awhile. Time for new management!!

The food is so expensive for how bad it is!! The lobster mac and cheese had about 4 pieces of lobster in a tiny bowl of mediocre macaroni (kinda seemed like it had been reheated). The atmosphere is nice, but it doesn't make up for the food!

We chose to have our Meet and Greet event the evening prior to our wedding at this amazing location! We were up on the rooftop area that they call...the treehouse? I could be wrong about that...What a view!!! Food was great, service excellent and our friends and family had the best time. It was exactly what we wanted and we really enjoyed every minute of our version of a rehearsal dinner. Thanks to the Reds Ice House staff for taking such good care of our group and making it such a memorable evening. We love the photographs we captured and enjoy looking through our album and remembering all of the details that made it a perfect time for our nearest and dearest. Special thanks to Brooks who helped me coordinate all the way from San Diego. He was responsive to emails and very helpful...good ole southern hospitality at its best!!

Ok if you are wanting a semi-cheap seafood meal with a good cold beverage. I always stick with the fish and chips. The fish piece is huge but it is mostly breading. I tend to peel most of the breading off and then eat the fish inside. If it is a nice day, eat out on the deck but if it is nice ... good luck finding a seat --- we tend to go at off times to avoid the wait. The last time we were in there, we ordered a kids meal for my 3 year old. Was supposed to come with a frisbee. It didn't come and when I asked, they said, oh yeah we are all out of those. It's not big but it is a bigger deal to my 3 year old.

I worked at reds before on bohicket marina. But I have to say mt pleasant is the best. Even though the place looks run down, it gives you a feel like no other place can in charleston. It's so laid back! I love being on Shem creek and watching the Dolphins swim by, the paddle boarders and kayakers, the sunsets. Can't beat reds icehouse!

All you can eat crab legs!!! Live music! Guy killed it on the piano Monday night. Great musical distraction for our 15 month old. Service was excellent. Legs and sodas were plentiful. Staff polite. Atmosphere the bomb! Ask for a side of old bay to dip those legs in. Then dip In butter!!! Num num num!!!

I loved the atmosphere of this place! All you can eat crab legs on monday night for 29.99 pp. Waitstaff was prompt and drinks were good! Awesome view from anywhere you sit, and the rooftop bar was pretty cool.

My coworkers and I went for dinner and drinks last night to Reds. We both shared two pitchers, we got the sex on the beach and the red deck pitchers which was well worth it! I only paid around 8 dollars for four good drinks! We got the lobster dip for appetizers which was really good! Had a lot of lobster! For dinner I ordered the Caesar salad with shrimp which in return I got the house salad with about 4 itty bitty shrimp. I also ordered the she crab soup which I was really disappointed because it hardly had any crab meat and it was pure liquid! The atmosphere and drinks were great but the dinner was off! I would recommend only coming to this place for drinks and the view! Server was really nice though!

Visited on a weekend and noticed this place and it was packed! Loved the vibe of this place outdoors on the water, live music and cold beers. A couple things I noticed was these bartenders (downstairs) are working hard and have to card each and every person with a thorough review...sometimes even consulting with each other and I saw one customer be turned away bc she had "never seen an out of state id like that." Don't blame them for requiring identification at all but wouldn't it be easier to have someone do this at the entrance with a wrist band. These bartenders don't have time for this on a busy weekend. Seems as if your loosing sales in all this back and forth time. As I say that...I must also say I saw something here and at Vickerys (across the water) that I have NEVER seen and that was the bartender taking a shot also...then an off duty employee walking behind the bar and getting a beer, opened it up and sat down upstairs to drink and relax. (Maybe done with her shift on the beer but really the guy taking a shot while tending bar?) I will be back and would recommend this place for having some beers and hanging out. I have not had any food here yet.

Reds is nice for the only reason that everyone likes it - The view of Shem Creek when its nice out. I have been here more than a handful of times, and the food has typically stayed the same, as has the service. The bucket of beer deals are really good, if you can get a bartender to take your order. The food is good, recommend the grouper sandwhich, peel and eat shrimp and the crab legs. The lobster mac n cheese is actually one of the best things they have there, as is the lobster, crab and cheese dip. Nice place to relax, have a drink, little seafood and people watch.

Outside of a nice view this place isn't too much to brag about. Yes, of course being on Shem creek is a plus, however the food is lacking. I came with my girlfriend and her grandparents and none of us were really 100% satisfied with anything we ate. Flavor wise things were very bland and the service was lacking as well...outside of drinks I most likely won't be coming back.

The First time I went to Red's (Bohicket), I went for the all-you-can-eat crab legs. I would rate them OK. They were small, often came out luke warm and they had a hard time keeping up with our re-orders. I would probably not go back for the crab legs. As a table, we also tried the lobster mac and cheese and jalapeno hushpuppies and LOVED both of those! 2nd visit was much better! (I am an out of towner, visiting often). I ordered the Grouper sandwich, and selected the homemade chips as my side. LOVED the grouper sandwich. I ordered mine fried. It was fresh, cooked just right, came on a toasted brioche bun with homemade tartar sauce. Delish!! The homemade chips came out hot and crispy! I asked for a side or ranch for mine. You will be charged .50 for extra "dips". We also ordered the Crab dip. It had a pretty good amount of crab, but it was a bit runny for my liking. I would probably try another one of their dips on return! No complaints on the service, our waitress was very attentive. Great view, atmosphere! Unfortunately was TOO HOT to sit on the upper deck, but one of the best seats in Charleston!

We were doing a Shem creek tour and wound up at Red's for a drink. In short, it's a decent place to sit and get a beer and enjoy the view. While we were reviewing the drink list we were asked by three separate bartenders if we were ready to order - clearly they have a good setup to get drinks out quickly. However, the drinks were exactly what you'd expect for a big waterfront restaurant. They have an entire page of Finlandia vodka drinks if you're into the "x-flavored vodka + fruit juice + fruit juice + grenadine" scene. We shrugged and got some beach drinks. The pina colada mix they use is surprisingly good. I got the Charleston cocktail and it was a dilute fruit juicey thing. Nothing I'd write home about. I'd go back for two reasons: (1) if we are hosting guests who really want a water-front bar (2) if I want a beer and to watch a football game that I can't see at home and Coleman Public House is full

Go here for the view and the experience. It's a great place to have a drink while watching boaters and dolphins at Shem Creek. The food is average. Seafood is fresh but not always expertly prepared. I've had some really tough, overcooked shrimp here. My favorite menu item is the blackened grouper sandwich. It's tender and well seasoned. The fish and chips are pretty good but can be a little on the greasy side. Go with the grouper!
(3)

Came here for dinner late one evening with some friends. The atmosphere was loud and crowded but exactly what you would expect from a restaurant on the water. I had the fried green tomatoes and hush puppies which were both good but the fried green tomatoes were very greasy. Everyone I was with ordered fish of some kind and was really happy with what they ordered. They don't have any items on the menu other than seafood items in case you were looking for some sort of other meat or veggie option.

LOVE this place! Loved sitting by the water in the bar area. Was cold but they had heaters. Their oysters are AMAZING!!! They were in clusters too which was really cool. Can't beat $14 for a pail of huge oysters! Very good place. Their burgers were juicy and out of this world.

Gotta love Red's. This is the local (but advertised as local) place that everyone should experience in Charleston. Although not on the beach, this is the type of place you seek out for serious seafood and a casual indoor/outdoor experience. Not the typical seafood diner with the bucket in the table, the food, atmosphere, and reputation of Red's speaks for itself. Basic beer list, basic cocktail pitchers, and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu (from what I've had). Go here and support the fisherman in Charleston!

Great place to go to people watch on Shem Creek. The drinks are good, but a little overpriced. The servers are not very attentive. We sat with empty drinks for about 30 minutes so we went ahead and got the check and went somewhere else!

This place is right on the water of Shem Creek. It's a great place to kick back with a bucket of beers, enjoy the breeze of the water, watch the dolphins play, and shoot the shit. It's a great bar to kick off the evening. It's also great for sunsets. Other than that, there really isn't much else to do here. There aren't any games and they don't really host any live music or anything cool like that. Also, I really do not care for their food at all. I've never really enjoyed anything that I've ordered here.

Good for cheap drinks thats it! Tuna tacos are raw- menu did not mention it was completely raw. Tuna tacos are usually blackened or served medium/pink in middle. Steamed shrimp were cold, no butter. More like cocktail shrimp than warm steamed shrimp- waitress also misheard half pound for quarter pound shrimp. Also waited 30 min for table bc hostess gave away our first table- she said our buzzer had been buzzing too long- long enough for us to walk in from outside bar. Sucked frankly...Will not be back or refering anyone.

Busy restaurant and bar on Shem's creek. Large menu with a lot of variety, but that seems to work against them. All the food was just okay; nothing to write home about. Drinks at the bar were good and inexpensive.

Came here for the 'Two people for 30' restaurant week deal Lobster Macaroni and Cheese appetizer was a nice creamy mix of pasta and small lobster chunks. Slightly spicy. Way more than enough for two people to share, it could be an app for 3-4 as well. It also came with a large hunk of claw meat on the top which was extremely tender and lacked the fishy flavor of cheaper poorly-cooked lobster. I got the "Braised Beef Short Ribs", which appeared to be only on the restaurant week menu. I'm not a massive fan of beef ribs, but I gave them a shot here. They were extremely fatty, nearly 50% of the meat on my plate was either bone or fat and had to be trimmed away. The brown gravy and baby red mashed potatoes were delicious, and I actually got a few good chunks of bacon in there, too. My wife got the pork tenderloin which was cooked perfectly, with a light pink in the center, and served with the same baby red mashed potatoes. The pork was also seasoned perfectly with a light rosemary and thyme dusting. For desert we got two mini-pies they offered and it was the perfect ending to the meal, small but nice portions. I had the peanut butter pie and it was a homemade Reese's cup encased in chocolate cake. My wife had a Blackberry Cabernet cheesecake and it was delicious. Parking lot is hard to navigate and after a rain storm you risk getting your ankles wet and spinning your tires. The entrance to the building is poorly marked and is actually on the left, we made the mistake of going in on the right which made us look like customers leaving and caused some confusion when we approached the greeter. One star off because of the poor quality of the beef ribs and slightly rude staff. P.S. overheard the table next to us ask about happy hour specials. They go until 7pm weekdays and are $2.50 domestic, $4 import. Wine and cocktails did not appear to be included in any special.

Red's has some great live music outdoors. I liked the outdoor seating looking out over the creek and dock. This review is for the John's Island location. The food here is much as expected, bar-type and not very good. It's a drinking place. We tried she-crab soup at three different establishments in Charleston and Red's had the least crabmeat and flavor. Very watery broth. I wasn't very hungry after it and decided to just get a salad. The Caesar salad had so much dressing it was almost inedible. My husband, on the other hand had a Grouper sandwich he said was OK, although not as good as the one at Chez Fish. Service didn't add anything to our experience. I think there are some things here you could order and enjoy, but we didn't have any luck and won't be returning even for the ambiance.

Loved this place! Great seafood with a wonderful view of Shem Creek bay, the owner of the shop we rented our paddle boards from, Air & Earth, recommended this place to us. You know if the locals are suggesting it's going to be bomb. I loved this place had many seating options, we sat at the bar outside, the service was prompt and polite. We shared a fried grouper sandwich with fries and the cheddar shrimp fritters. Awesome all the way around, not too greasy or fishy at all, the key lime mustard aioli was delicious! Definitely a good stop!

This restaurant was just ok. Not very pricey which is why we didn't complain about our food. The restaurant was busy when we arrived but we were seated very quickly. Hostess didn't give us an estimated time, she just handed the pager to us. We ordered the jalapeño hushpuppies. The dipping sauce was very tasty, however you couldn't taste the jalapeños in the hush puppies at all. I ordered the fish and chips which equated to a plate full of grease. The breading on the bottom was soggy so I scraped it away and ate the fish. The fries were fries! My boyfriend ordered the scallops and chips. His results were the same. This restaurant seemed like a good hangout spot to drink beer and socialize, the more beer the least likely you are to notice the grease!

The grouper sandwich was so good. Also enjoyed the jalapeno hush puppies. My waitress wasn't the best; she forgot to put our skewer in and I was looking forward to it. The location is absolutely awesome! Right on the water. If you have dogs they are welcome. Would go back for drinks and appetizers

Best crab dip I've had in a long time. It's served with tortilla chips and has lots of crab meat with cream cheese. The grouper sandwich was wonderful. The service was fantastic.

Two stars only on this place because it takes too long to wait to be seated outside and the wait on beers was pushing it. My blackened fish was bland and had nothing going for it at all. The French fries were your plain old boring fries everyone serves you everywhere. Shrimp was good but nothing special to me, all this place is is a location with a view. Heard really great things about this place but it fell way short for me food wise. Having three of of spending over 70.00 wasn't worth the price.

What a great spot for lunch! Very basic, down to earth bar atmosphere overlooking Shem Creek! Lacking in a good beer selection but great menu choices. We loved the lobster roll & grilled grouper sandwich! House made chips were so phenomenal & slaw was good too! Nothing fancy here but it was exactly what we were looking for!

I was at Red's on a Monday all you can eat crab leg night. The crab legs were not seasoned. The shrimp and scallop skewers were tasty. The she crab soup was edible. The frozen drink was so weak my 9 year old could have shared it with me. Side note: if you don't like dogs or even if you do but don't want to eat with them don't sit outside. It was so many dogs there I felt like I was at the bark park. A couple of dogs did what dogs do and started fighting :( Warning: If cigarette smoke bothers you don't sit out side.

Reds is one of my favorite restaurants on the water in mount pleasant. Bar outside is great with lots of great live music. Shem creek views are beautiful and it's easy to hang out with lots of friends. The Palmetto burger has some of the best pimento cheese on it and I get it nearly every time. If your a beer snob just know ahead of time that they only have bottles and nothing on tap. I personally prefer just bottles which is why I love it here so much.

Five stars for the food! Everything we had was delicious. The staff was friendly in a standard way, and there were plenty of flies around, but with the windows and doors open on a sunny summer day, it was no big deal. I got the crab legs. After a while, the meat tastiest saltier than I'd prefer, but the price is excellent, and the crab was cooked perfectly. The Icehouse Shrimp Dip is pretty okay. It's a neat novelty thing. My husband really liked it, and I liked it, too, but I'll probably try a different dip the next time we visit. My husband got the fried po boy and was very happy with his choice. -- We'd went to Water's Edge two nights before, and I had wanted to order crab legs there, but our server recommended I go to Red's Ice House for crab legs instead because the price was so much better. I agree! Our entire check for Red's was less than half of what we paid at Water's Edge, and to be honest, I enjoyed it much better, too!

Very disappointing. We were seated and then waited and waited and waited. Finally I asked hostess if there was a waitress for our section. Another waitress came and took our drink order. When our waitress finally did show, she acted put out when I commented that we'd ordered drinks. She did take our food order. I had lobster roll and my husband had fish and chips. Lobster roll was seasoned (took away from flavor of lobster). Fish was really greasy and there were no "chips". As far as the drinks. Piña colada tasted like it was made with bad mix. I had two cosmos. Neither were as described on menu (neither had the "cranberry stick") and clearly they were made by different bartenders as one had mottled lime (not as described on menu) and the other did not - so no consistency. Also had to spend whole meal fighting flies (and we were eating inside). Basically, this was a waste of money.

A good bar type, food is ok, beer runs freely. However, what makes this place and others in the area is Shem Creek, hands down. The most beautiful place in Mt Pleasant. This is why you go. Dolphins, fishing boats, people, etc. Just sit there with your drink, breath in the sea air, let your eyes enjoy, and relax. A more calm life you will not find. Frank G

Red's is a tough one. There are definitely things to keep you coming back and then other things that make you want to run the other way. Red's is the epitome of why people choose to live in the Charleston area. Go down there during the week for happy hour on a nice day and it's guaranteed to be a good time. Almost the entire place is outdoors and it's right on the water. Absolutely beautiful views of the creek and you'll often see dolphins, kayaks, and boats going by. My favorite thing is going on Mondays for all you can eat Crab Legs. I think it costs $30 and it's best to arrive early to avoid a long wait. If you go at peak time, you'll have to wait 2 hours and they stop serving crab after 10pm I think. The problem here is if you arrive at 7pm and have to wait 2 hours, you only have an hour to be seated, order, and eat all the crab you can. Nobody want's to be rushed. I've had other food here and it's mostly average. I like the scallop basket and it's not expensive either. I once ordered the lobster roll and it was a joke... tiny and not worth it. The grouper sandwich usually comes with a huge piece of fish on it... a much better choice. The service can be hit or miss but never anything really bad. I've also had pretty stellar waitresses while dining. Things can be pretty slow if it's busy. The bar service is worse. It tends to be pretty busy out there but they often just don't care. I usually try to hit up the side bar to get better service. They don't have any draught beer outside at the bar and the beer selection is pretty minimal. I used to get liquor drinks but found they would be consistently be weak. It got to the point where I literally won't order liquor drinks at the outside bar because I don't trust them to make a proper drink. I guess just stick to cheap domestic brew.

This place is jumping very lively and very chill loud music but it fit the spot out door bar with live music and great food. But the part I loved the most they welcomed us with open arms with my pet even brought me s bowl with cold water for her. Besides that service was fast as well food was really good blackened fish sandwich coconut shrimp lobster mac and lobster clam seafood cheese dip wow phenomenal i will be back and thanks for such a great experience!

Atmosphere is great and even better place to people watch. Beer is cold. Food was okay. Wouldn't say it was the best I've ever had nor the worst either. Ordered the corn lobster dip. Dip had a ton of mayo and tiny and I mean tiny shreds of lobster. Also shared a fried shrimp basket with French fries. Hushpuppies were served with basket and were pleasantly good. We went here for cold beer and a hold over snack and served that purpose well.

Came in to day with my partner for lunch thought we would try it out because we hear the commercial on the radio all the time. We sat inside, the first turn off of this place we're all the flys buzzing around and landing all over the place. It was so bad that a table of 4 got up and moved after complaining to there waitress. We placed are order with are waitress, about 20 minutes later are food came out! 20 MINUTES! Mind you we got a shrimp Poe-boy and I the fish sandwich 20 minutes for 2 sandwiches is crazy. When I bit in to my fish sandwich it was soggy and dripping grease, the hand cut chips I orders for a side I guess came with it! I say I guess because I had about 12 chips. If I wanted a kids meal I would have went to McDonald's. Being a local I will not becoming back again and any one that I know I'm will make sure they know that this place sucks and the food sucks. Now I see why you have the reviews that you have. Worst local food place yet.

Summer apple megarita- great drink!! Shrimp boil and low country boil was way over cooked. Shrimp was dry and chewy. The BBQ bacon wrapped shrimp skewers were great. Shrimp queso dip was very good as well. Great atmosphere. Excellent view. I would come again for appetizers and happy hour.

Fun for happy hour but food is terrible!!! I got the lobster roll and it was almost inedible...roll was soggy and it was all lettuce no lobster meat. My husband got the nachos and the meat had no seasoning, the chips were stale, and the cheese was on the bottom. Just drinks for us next time!

I can see the draw for tourists, they pay a lot of money for marketing, but every time I've gone here its been awful. Staff are rude, from the door guys to the wait staff.. bartenders aren't as bad... food is over priced and over cooked. Management just sucks at their jobs. Everyone who works there obviously hates their lives. I feel sorry for the lot of them. if you have a choice on Shem creek.... Vickerys is my first choice, but anywhere besides Reds is better.

I had to give them 5 stars not only for food, but for service as well. Our family ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos, the shrimp and grits, and the lobster mac and cheese. My husband's Mac and cheese was mushy and hardly any lobster (he's had it here before and said it's usually amazing) he asked if he could have something else and the waitress took it back and put him in an order for shrimp and grits. The manager brought out his new entree, visited with us and apologized. They are one of the least expensive seafood places we are at in the area but the best food!

Definitely the place for locals to grab a bite, drink, and relax after a long work day to enjoy the great views of the creek alive with the dancing dolphins, pelicans, and boaters. The service was great, even while sitting outside on their expansive deck. I was told that our chosen appetizers were the best options from the menu. The bacon wrapped scallops and shrimp, were delicious. The crab dip cold was good and thick, but I just wish it could have had a slightly stronger crab flavor. Definitely a great pre-meal stop before going out for a dinner later in the evening.

Very popular place in Mt Pleasant, especially since you can dock your boat at the bar. We hung out there on an overcast Sunday recently, but there was still plenty of people. The buckets of beer are a good deal and good to share with friends. The peel and eat shrimp are great, as well as the kabob offerings. Bathrooms are inside through the restaurant. Thanks for the drinks Skip! Cool bartender.

This place is awesome, the lowcountry boil is the answer to all my life problems. Being by the water is a plus. Dolphins even come hangout here. Staff is always nice and my drink is always refilled.

Red's..all it has going for it- is location, location, location. My french fry barometer registered a boooo for the lukewarm jalapeno slightly undercooked hushpuppies, a wahhhh for the old french fries and a super yuck for the side of mayonaise dipping sauce, with too many dried herbs that tasted like dirt. I asked for some cocktail sauce and it tasted like Texas Pete chili sauce. Jeez, bad bar food can be delicious, there was no love prepared in anything on the table. It is however, delightful to be on the water. Gorgeous spot, but I think I would rather be landlocked. PS, my friend ordered a margarita, the bartender poured that bullshit, lime green, plastic bottle from the restaurant supply store, corn syrup margarita mix in her cocktail. Damn, that's just slack and dangerous. It is a great place for local color and plenty of outdoor seating.

This place has a nice atmosphere right on the river and is dog-friendly. Food is decent, but nothing special. Pretty good sized menu, though. If I go back it would be to grab a drink along the water at the outside bar and catch a game or something. When I was there they didn't have live music, but for the atmosphere, live music would be a lot of fun there.

The only thing that Reds is good for is the view. The food is typical bar food and not great and I guarantee you that the seafood is frozen and comes from the US Foods company that all the other restaurants use. There is no way that my shrimp was caught fresh in the local waters. They were miniature and like rubber. I know plenty of people that work in the restaurants here and unfortunately, that is the case in most of them. Anyway, I usually try to go to Water's Edge or whatever the restaurant is across from Reds because it has better food, it's clean and you can actually walk down to the dock which is cool. In my opinion, Reds is for the younger crowd. I'm only 31 but the place is dirty.. the bathrooms were filthy and none of the paper towel dispensers worked. 3 girls went in at the same time and then came out throwing the MF'er bombs at this older woman who knocked a few extra times because they took way too long (for the 1 person she thought was in there). Classy. With all the money Reds makes, you would think they can afford to clean up their bathrooms not to mention fixing the ton of huge potholes in their parking lot. The waitresses take way too long and are not professional at all. The first time I went to Reds and saw the "lovely" washcloths they use as napkins and ate the food, I told myself that it's not worth ever eating there again. Unfortunately, I agreed to my friend's decision and I went there again and was disappointed again. There will not be a third time.... there are wayyyy too many wonderful restaurants in the Charleston area to waste my time eating here. Once again, if you want a nice view and a loud party place, go here but if you are looking for good food; don't but then again, if you are the type of person who doesn't go out much and never experiences really good food, then you'll probably be satisfied!

Bitchy bartenders. Poured a vodka cranberry minus the vodka then decided to pour a shot of vodka in after questioning the drink and proceeded to charge for a double. Avoid this dump and it's decrepit restroom.

Wow What a place. Great Music, 4 star food, and 5 star guests. This is not a place you come to for a quiet date. This is a great place to turn a meal into an all night good time. Staff are friendly, and the people who eat here are fun loving, live music on the decks that over looks the water. Our Server Sarah kept the food and drinks coming all evening. My group consisted of 18 Large and Loud men. We fit right in. I would highly recommend this place to seafood lovers and people who don't eat sea food but know a good burger.

Great views of the waterfront from the rooftop bar. Food is a bit like bar food. Lots of fried foods. Surprised by the lack of fresh fish for a seafood restaurant. Service was really good. Prompt. Nice. Happy hour had $4 mixed drinks

Red's serves average bar food and has lots of tourists. They also have live music and about 99% of the restaurant is outdoor patio space right there on Shem Creek. We went at 10:00 for dinner after Tavern and Table's kitchen was closed (that place is becoming my frenemy after three failed attempts to eat there now). Red's Kitchen was open late thankfully. It also serves a whole lot of bar food. I had the seafood queso. It's basically a chopped up shrimp or two in traditional creamy white queso. My gentleman caller had the crab cake sandwich and enjoyed it enough. Neither of us were blown away by the food, but the bartender was awesome. I should mention the atmosphere is also an all-around good time. Fun live cover band, huge crowd having a great time, and an unbeatable view had it been light out. I will absolutely go back for happy hour and I will absolutely eat here if I happen to get hungry while happy hour-ing. I probably won't purposefully go here to eat when there are so many other great dining options in the area. But hey, live music and ice cold beer are always a winning combo in my book.

I had high expectations for my last trip to Red's, and unfortunately, I was disappointed. A large group of us went to Red's after stand up paddle boarding on Shem Creek for a friend's birthday. Red's was convenient and it is one of the less expensive places to eat on Shem Creek. My other experience with Red's was for drinks (which was a good experience), so I was excited for lunch. We placed our orders, had some drinks and apps, and waited. Then, we waited some more. After a while, one friend inquired about our food and our waitress said all the orders were put in at once and there was nothing she could do (of course they're all placed at once- it's a restaurant). We noticed other tables place orders, eat, and get their checks while we waited. I had the Asian Shrimp Salad, which wasn't well described on the menu. The salad is really shrimp and oranges on top of cole slaw, but without the typical cole slaw dressing. I didn't care for the salad at all and would not order it again or recommend it. The portion was fine, but it was pretty tasteless. My friend's oyster po boy was mostly bread with little filling and few oysters. The hushpuppies weren't bad, as we had two orders while waiting. When our checks came out, everyone handed over their cards or cash. The server came back with them and handed them all to one member of our party to disburse for us to sign and leave a tip, instead of distributing them to each of us. There was no apology for our wait time, which would have been nice. I don't have any plans to visit Red's again, which is really a shame because it's a great location with a nice view. After this lunch, I'm not even sure I want to come back for drinks.

I like this place! As expected on a Saturday night it was packed to capacity. Great rustic atmosphere. The live band was on point. I had fried green tomatoes & shrimp tacos The shrimp was grilled to perfection. My margarita was humongous although a tad weak. The wait time for the food was super. Although it was practically a madhouse the waiter was very courteous and efficient. Yeah, I left pretty happy!
(5)
Dariel S.
If I were to rate Red's just on food it might be 3 stars. However the fact that it's right on Shem Creek and you can eat and have a drink watching the kayaks, boats and dolphins just demands another star. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and it was very delicious. I also thought prices were great.

The best part about this place is definitely the view. It's located on Shem Creek and next to several restaurants. If you hang around enough you'll see dolphins. I ordered the "kickin shrimp" which was spicy but not well-seasoned...there's a difference. The bacon wrapped scallops were really good. I'm not in a rush to return but it was decent.
(2)
Mindy K.
The views are some of the best of Charleston. The food is ok. I got BBQ bacon wrapped scallops which were good but pricey for a happy hour portion. Service at the bar could be better. The bartenders are young and don't recognize the patrons as the reason they have a job. Upstairs roof deck bartenders are usually much better with service and personality!
(3)
Tim O.
Solid bar. Stop by here a lot when I am down in Charleston. Buckets of beer are cheap and the view can't be beat, especially if you are hanging out up top. I've seen dolphins a few times while sitting at the railing. The food is okay, but I rarely ever come down here for lunch or dinner so I'm not going to comment on that. They have a few of the local Charleston craft beers. Just ask for the special beer menu and you can try them yourself.

Ideally I would rate this place a 3.5. We came by on a weekend night and were told the wait for a dinner table would be an hour and a half. After some 10 minutes we went back to the hostess stand and said we were going elsewhere unless the wait somehow was substantially less. She informed us that there were only 4 parties in front of us, so we waited and were called in the next 5 minutes. They have a lot of room for improvement for judging the wait times. I see what happened to us as pure laziness on the hostesses part. The wait staff were friendly and attentive and the margarita pitcher we ordered was pretty good. I had my first Low Country Boil and was pleasantly surprised! A good amount of food for the price and rich flavor. My company's food, though, was not worth the price. One friend got the fish tacos- and there were 2 for the same price as my large plate of low country boil. The salads were normal dinner salads and good to eat. My other friend had a fish sandwich which she enjoyed. overall decent place to eat seafood for not too expensive. A great location right on the river (there are dolphins hanging around too!). I would say it's a nice family atmosphere as long as you don't mind the loudness of a busy restaurant and having a few bars close by, within the premises.

Red's is one of the restaurants I always stop by when I'm back home in Mt. Pleasant. I've never expected pomp and circumstance when I go there--it's an ice house, for Pete's sake. But I do always get good service, good food, and good drinks. The prices make me miss home when I think of what I pay for seafood in Atlanta. I can get my entire life for under $25 at Red's. I usually go for the oyster basket and add scallops, for the low-low ($7 for six oysters and a side + $6 for 1/4 lb. of scallops) And these amazing 32 oz. cocktails served in buckets for like $8. Buckets of fun, indeed. Oh, and the Po Boys are pretty good too--both with shrimp or oysters. The views are nice as well. Imagine sipping your cocktail-in-a-bucket while dolphins are chilling nearby. What's not to love about that?! I'm already planning my next trip home. Mom, get my old room ready for me!

Lord have Mercy! I'm giving Red's 2 stars entirely because of the location ONLY! Cheap food that has poor quality. Thank goodness beer was cold. I ordered the "lobster roll" and it's was comical. Little pieces of lobster meat. Roll was completely filled with lettuce and celery. I asked the waitress and she said it is a lobster salad roll. LOL I'm sure Red's will survive but I won't come back again.

Not impressed. Coconut shrimp were tiny, nachos w/ chicken were not very good. There was only a few pieces of tiny chicken on the entire plate. Server took forever to come around. We were never given any utensils. Go somewhere else

Love RED'S!!!!! The view cannot be beat. Dolphins and pelicans playing, kayaks and paddle boards cruising and boats along with great seafood make Red's a top destination. Love their dip w chips, fried shrimp and grilled fish. This is our favorite.

I can't stress enough on how awesome the food is here. Best time to go is Aug-Jan so most of the tourists are gone. Staff is pretty awesome but when it gets busy don't get fussy if you have to wait a minute. Some people in this world have no patience. The atmosphere is awesome on cooler nights watching the sun go down. Check it out and DONT goto RBs it has nothing on Reds!!!

Great atmosphere. Bartenders were so rude, and I might be young but I've worked in the service industry 10 yrs and never been treated like that. Bartender with short hair acted like it was an annoyance to serve us, didn't know what a bushwacker was and instead of asking just walked away. I understand you're busy, but after waiting 20 min for you to acknowledge a customer I think we'd all appreciate a little bit of courtesy. I hate negative reviews for restaurants but couldn't not try and bring this sort of behavior to the owner/managers attention.

Want a great place to have drinks while watching the sunset, seeing dolphins play, or checking out the haul from the million-dollar sportfishers? Then yea, it's a great place to go hang out and meet friends for drinks. Need food?! Try your nearest dumpster before deciding to eat here. Food is terrible! Just go for the drinks and you'll be happy.

Nice place -- right on the water for a good view and a cool breeze. Lots of people there to keep it exciting and a ton of TVs if you want to watch a game...or several. (I watched Yankees/Mets, an NBA quarterfinals game, and a Kings hockey playoffs game.) Overall a good night, though I wouldn't recommend the margaritas, unless you like drinking sugar water. (They do give you A LOT of it though.)
(4)

Splendid business. The real attraction here for me is the rooftop bar as you get an incredible view, good bar selection for drinks and a good crowd. Military friendly which is a plus. Haven't eaten a full meal here but the fries and nachos I ate were about as good as expected. Definitely a great weekend joint and even weekday too, been meaning to come and try out the bottomless crab leg deal I saw them advertising.

Just OK. Good and bad. Good: Location. On Shem Creek, cool place to hang out, great gathering place, lots of TVs to watch the games and drink a beer. Bad: service. Yep, it was a bit crowded. Sat a bar table and waited about 20 minutes and couldn't flag down a waiter. (Seemed like most of the wait staff were really young, unpolished kids who had no supervision or direction). We did get a table and were eventually served - my wife had to hunt down silverware even asking the waiter for silverware. The menu and food = 2 stars. Very limited menu and pretty much greasy bar food. $46 for 2 beers, two entrees (fish tacos and a basket of fried scallops) and a decent tip for not-so-good service. The scallops were really mushy - either under cooked or over cooked - I don't know. Best part of Red's is dogs are allowed in the outdoor spaces. Recommend it only for bringing your dog, nursing a beer (no food!!) and watching a game on TV or hanging near the Creek.

Great back patio to hang out, have some drinks, socialize. Definitely skewed for a "hang out and have a beer" atmosphere moreso than a "fine dining" experience. I had the blackened grouper sandwich, and was very satisfied.

Great atmosphere, waitress was excellent, bacon BBQ shrimp good size meal and tasty, however the crab cake, one small one on limp lettuce, left even a small eater like me, still very hungry, it was ok just very small. Great to see many locals there, I am sure they know what to order...

A large crew of us came to Red's after my friend's wedding across the creek. Our experience started off on a positive note. I loved the deck seating and the location by the water. The bar was fairly crowded and there was a fun band playing inside. Red's definitely had the appearance of being 'the place to be.' After a few rounds of drinks, everyone decided to go inside for some food since we had about an hour before the kitchen closed. For whatever reason, no one bothered to come by and take our order. Why the staff here would ignore a huge table of hungry people ready to spend their money is beyond me. It wasn't until I went to the bar (almost 40 minutes later) and asked one of the bartenders if she could send someone to our table that a server stopped over. We were finally able to order just before they stopped serving food. The buffalo shrimp and grouper sandwich were okay, but certainly nothing to write home about. My friend ordered the fish and chips which she said was horrible and when she complained about it to the management, they were incredibly rude to her. Scene or no scene, this place needs to get its act together service-wise and learn how to treat paying customers!

In a perfect world, cost is no object and you can always afford the best of everything. This however is not a perfect world and when reviewing a restaurant one of the things that is often overlooked by the professionals is the cost of an average meal. The rest of us who don't get to put everything on an expense account must consider this issue at at least some level when we decide to eat out. The reason I mention this here is because value for the dollar is a place where Red's Ice House is truly outstanding. Good, fresh seafood can be had here for a very reasonable price. In fact I would wager that this is one of the least expensive places to eat and drink in the sections of the low country frequented by tourist. And to be honest the seafood here is actually good. It's not the best in Charleston or anything close to it, but you get a good quality meal here none the less and you won't pay a lot for it. My GF and I ate here the evening after our sunset cruise on the last day we were in town. Having been here before I knew I wanted the Low Country Boil. It was my last chance to get this local specialty and I knew Red's had a version that I enjoyed. My GF got a mixed basket of fish, shrimp and fries. My low country boil was fresh and tasty but could have used a touch more seasoning. My GF's fish was beer battered, not something I care for but I know a lot of people like that, and I could see that it was done correctly. Her fried shrimp were excellent and matched up favorably against any that I have had in the Charleston area. Her fries were hand cut from fresh potatoes, not frozen. That's a big plus in my book. I had a Sweetwater 420 since I knew it would be my last chance to get one before flying home and my GF had a shot of jack which she mixed with her coke. The drink prices were reasonable but not dirt cheap on the night we were there. The place was busy when you consider that it was a weeknight in the shoulder season and that might account for the slow service we got. It doesn't help that the place is seat yourself, and because of that it can take awhile for the waitstaff to realize you are there. I will say that once we got the attention of a waitress that the speed of service picked up, and was accurate and friendly. The weather was quite nice and Shem Creek waterfront dining is beautiful even after sunset. This place is casual and laid back, almost rustic with it's large garage doors that can be opened to let you enjoy the weather or closed as needed. If I lived in the Charleston area I would eat here a lot. There are places that I like more then Red's in the Low Country but I simply can't afford to eat at many of them as often as I would like. Red's on the other hand has prices I can afford and food that I really like. This is good quality unpretentious affordable dining at it's everyday best.

Laid-back atmosphere overlooking Shem Creek. Entertaining as you can watch happenings on the creek. Worth the wait to eat outside on the deck, even with the pet friendly environment (on outside deck). I enjoyed a fish basket with hush puppies and coleslaw for only $10.00. The fish was battered and fried, not greasy - and a decent portion. The coleslaw was great b/c the cabbage was not swimming in mayonnaise. Lively atmosphere. HaVe a NiCe DaY!!

Just sat down with my family for lunch around noon. All we wanted were Oysters. Waitress said they're out of season. She must have thought we were out of town idiots. Got the family up and walked over next door to RB's who had plenty of fresh Oysters. If I was the owner of Reds, I'd fire that waitress. I was too generous and left a dollar tip. Hopefully she got the point.

This is officially my favorite bar in the Mt Pleasant area. It was happening on this extremely hot Saturday afternoon. The crowd is all ages, inside and outside. The misting fans barely made a dent in the heat and humidity. I had the Shrimp and Chips. This is the best fried shrimp I've had since O'Steens in St Augustine. That's high praise, and I think the shrimp itself was better at Reds. I'd stick with the shrimp if you're going to eat here. Of course, if you just sit outside and watch the dolphins try to avoid the boats in Shem Creek while having a couple of $3 Red Stripes, that's worth 4 stars too.

We have eaten at Red's MANY times and the food was okay. We decided to try Red's for the Restaurant Week special. BIG mistake. We arrived at 5pm, there were no crowds yet. Should have taken the hint when it took a long time just to get a beer. The food, out of 4 people, only 1 had a meal that was slightly more than warm the rest were more on the tepid side, waitress was horrible, we asked for cocktail sauce which we never received, we had to go get our own water refill, the cheesecake dessert was warmer than our food to the point that the whipped cream on the top was melting. There was a dog bowl of water underneath the chair of the table beside us which the lady pointed out to 2 different staffers, including our waitress who repeatedly just stepped over it. The hostess led a group to a table and we watched them all step over it. A person who identified herself as the manager was also notified of the bowl, she also decided not to remove it. After almost 2 1/2 hours we finally got our bill after going to the bar to ask for it and we left - the bowl was still there. This is an enclosed area where dogs are not allowed, so why was that bowl there and how long had it been there and how long will it remain there. Who knows. Skip the food at Red's, go for a drink and the view and ignore the rude staff.

The view is gorgeous of course. While waiting we saw a dolphin swimming around in Shem Creek. On Saturday, the lunch wait was about 20 minutes at around 2. We had coconut shrimp to start, which had a perfect amount of coconut flavor and were crispy and delicious. I then had a crab cake sandwich for my meal. I took the crab cake off the bread and just ate that by itself, the bun was too big and covered all the flavor of the crab. The fries have a great seasoning on them! Also tried my husband's fish and chips. The fish was fried so it was super crispy and delicious. We will be back!

Crappy food. Cheap beer. Cool spot to hang.

Got the recommendation from staff at the Kiawah Island Resort to come check this place out. It actually was a nice to take a break from all the high priced resort food and ammenities to a more down to earth place. The restaurant/bar is situated right on river front. Atmosphere/crowd ranges from college crowd to families. We happened to go on a very nice day and the place was crowded. The vibe was good. A lot of people having a good time. Sun, watching the boaters, paddle surfers, and all the people while having some drinks with friends can't be beat. What more could you ask for. Service is good, staff is friendly and food is ok. I'd say it's one notch above bar food. I highly recommend the grouper sandwich. Apps are ok. Tried the buffalo shrimp. Sauce and seasoning was typical "buffalo" sauce, but the shrimp themselves were tiny and I think I only got 7 or so. Paying close to $10 was a bit steep if you ask me for tiny shrimp. Next time, I'll stick with the bucket of beer special they have, hang out with friends and enjoy the sun and views.

I love to travel to Charleston, and this is a place I must visit every trip. It has a great atmosphere and is really relaxed. The food is good- not the best but good enough. What really makes Reds the place to go is its outside deck/ patio area. This is a great place to people watch, and even dolphin and manatee watch. The dolphins tend to be active in this area and I've never been and not seen dolphins. The drink specials are okay but you are going for an incredible view and a fun environment.

I normally love Red's atmosphere (dogs on the deck!!), location, outdoor seating, beach drinks and food. Sadly my husband and I waited over 20 minutes for our drink orders to be taken and then a good 10 minutes for our drinks to come..not cool, especially for a tourist type place. Might reconsider going back again after this visit.

This is not the place for foodies, so if that's you, steer clear. Otherwise, you might love it. Even though the service is hurried and the menu is hit-or-miss (the crab cake sandwich, coconut shrimp, and blackened tuna are all hits), Red's earns four stars for being exactly what it promises: a perfect laid-back bar for a cold beer out on the dock with your dog by your side. Creek view, live music, life's good.

Cold beer and a great view .. Fish taco's pretty tasty. Love the atmosphere, especially the dolphin's swiming in the creek.

Shem Creek, Shem Creek, Shem Creek..that is one happenin' place from 4-7 any night of the week. I came here for a drink with some friends recently, and we had a blast! I got their strawberry daiquiri which man oh man, by far one of the best I've ever had. It is so delicious you forget you're drinking alcohol and the only reason I knew was because my Asian senses went off. I got the Chicken fingers to split with the group and it was fried perfectly and everything was just yummy for the tummy. DEFinitely a MUST TRY!!!! Besides, who doesn't love sitting by the water watching dolphins go by? huh? huh?

I have a huge soft spot for this place. I love that its situated right on the water. I love that you can bring your dog. I love the beer, and their food is awesome as well. I recommend their Lobster Rolls and the Jalapeño hushpuppies. You won't be disappointed.

Dropped in here thinking we might get dinner but ended up grabbing a quick bowl of She-Crab soup and some beers instead. Nice, laid back bar type place located right on the waterway and I'm sure it's packed during the weekend given that. We were there on a rather chilly and rainy day so the crowd was pretty thin but it was mostly an after work type crowd. Nothing really bad to report, the service was good and polite and I'd certainly come back for a lunch, probably not a dinner.

Popped in here for a quick drink and a cup of She-Crab soup YUUUMMMM. This was my kind of soup! Anyone can make crab soup but Red's made it a bit spicy which I LOVE!!! The rest of the place looked a little cheesy with local yocals but if you want some soup stop in here!!! :-D

I love this place for three things: (1) the lobster roll, which has a roll as delicious as the lobster (2) the fresh cucumber salad, a refreshing treat on a hot day (3) butter, and the corn on the cob to which it accompanies And they also allow dogs on the porch, which is great for dog owners and fans alike!

I had the blackened grouper sandwich, and it was awesome. My girlfriend had the chicken tacos, and they were pretty bland. The location on Shem Creek is awesome, and the waterside view is really good, so it's definitely a good place to hang out and have a few drinks.

Horrible food! Great view, cold beer that's it. Our meal was gross poorly served bad bad and bad. My salad with "oh yeas the tuna is great" was boring with to many croutons, cheap shredded cheese junky veggies and the tuna was tough and tasteless, dressing tasted bottled. My father got shrimp and fries, he is 89 and complained the food stunk, cold fries and junky small over cooked shrimp, tasteless. Sugary white wine, yuck! Forget this place, even for bar food it stinks! Insulting to be served such bad food. Service was good.

(2)Brie L.
(4)Allison B.
You did get two stars because I loved the atmosphere,
(2)Rob J.

(3)Stephanie F.
Good service, great location and good atmosphere where we could watch dolphins swim by, but the food was blah. Had the shrimp tacos-lots of shrimp and they were fresh, but tiny and everything else had little flavor and seemed pre-made.
(2)Allison E.
Amazing atmosphere. The place was packed, but the servers were amazing. The food was awesome!
(5)Jen H.
(3)Casey E.
(5)Jay J.
Great location and setting. Service is okay and food is so so. But Monday night is all you can eat crab, which is worth the trip.
(3)Dawn B.
Had to wait 1.5hours for my husband & mom to get all you can eat crab legs, but was worth the wait for them!!! Had a couple of the bucket drinks to make the wait go by....very tasty!
(4)Steve J.
This was my first time having oysters and they were great. We had oysters, crab, shrimp and fried green tomatoes. I would definitely eat here again. My only complaint is that the shrimp was served cold which was not expected. The atmosphere is really nice too. The outside foes right out on the water.
(4)Steve T.
(4)Shsron F.
Shrimp and grits are very good. Other things on the menu are fried this and that. I would have liked more healthy choices like broiled fish dishes and grilled shrimp. To their credit they do have a low country boil Shrimp poor boy was also tasty
(4)Kati W.
Great place to drink! The only thing I don't particularly enjoy is the bathroom near the main entrance (so smelly). The one further into the building is much nicer. All in all the food and atmosphere is great :). Good times will be had!
(4)Shana B.
Ate here Friday night with my boyfriend and our friends and it was awesome! !! I really enjoyed my blackened grouper sandwhich and sunset margarita. Also enjoyed my view of the water on a nice breezy night I love Redds, will be back real soon
(5)Logan S.
(2)Pam D.
Enjoy the view of dolphins while you eat. Bring the pups too. Wonderful view on Shem Creek. Burgers, seafood, wings and cold beer! Prices are very responsible and all you can eat crab legs on Monday for $30 and you do not even have to ask for more they just keep coming
(5)Christine J.
(3)Tracy C.
This was first time here. Food was amazing and we'll priced. Cody our waiter was on point and never left is without food or drinks!
(4)Sarah E.
(4)Andrew W.
(3)Lindsay S.
I really enjoy this place for drinks and appetizers. Can't speak about their entrees, but if you just want to enjoy the water view with a beer and snacks, this is a great place to post up. We had the warm crab dip and it was devoured in minutes. Great service and views of the creek.
(4)Brittany H.
(3)Richard R.
(2)Beth A.
(3)Mariel G.
(1)Ron Q.
(5)Kimberly F.
(4)Mike W.
(4)cindy w.
Great roasted oysters! Great atmosphere on the water. Good service and good food! You won't be disappointed
(4)M. W.
Despite what others feel about this place, I would have to say this place was wonderful! I had a craving for shrimp and this place more than satisfied that craving. The location is awesome, the food was cheap and delicious! Great service and no wait!
(4)C O.
Good place to watch March madness! The Corona beers are sold by the bucket and are a very good deal! The are wide screen televisions everywhere for easy watching.
(3)Joe G.
Pretty chill scene! Food is good but it's the atmosphere and views very comes for! If I lived in this area I would definitely be a regular
(4)Mark K.
(4)John B.
(3)Ginger S.
Good food with a great view. We have seen dolphins every visit. Great shrimp and grits and unique appetizers.
(4)Val H.
(2)Victoria G.
(3)Amy B.
Went with my husband and baby daughter for early dinner around 4. Not too busy, fast & friendly service, GREAT food!!! Will definitely come back on our next vacation to the area!!!
(5)Elvis P.
Wish there was something more on the menu that would have screamed at me more than what I had. I was super hungry and just couldn't find something that would have had more variety than either this entree with one side or what have you. The chipotle tartar was surprising but my least favorite style of tartar sauce. (Tarragon I believe)
(3)Josh A.
(2)Fae W.
Zero star if possible. My worst restaurant experience. Bad service, slow no sense of urgency, bad management they did not care about the customer's experience (I asked to speak to the manager but no one ever showed up). The best part was the view. I will never go back.
(1)C W.
(5)Tyler L.
(2)Gabriel B.
(3)Sandy S.
(5)Francesca J.
Great place to hang on a warm day. We sat at the outdoor first level bar. View was great, drinks were cold and service was good. They had a nice tropical cocktail list, that you can get by the pitcher! I will always make it a point to come here on my visits to Charleston.
(5)Robbie A.
(5)Anita O.
(1)Sam B.

(4)Julie M.
Fun place to go sit out on the water and enjoy a drink. Our server was great, but the food was so-so. Most of is ordered their grouper sandwich (the signature dish) and it was just okay. I'd go back for their cocktail pitchers, though. And prices are very reasonable.
(3)Tina R.

(4)Speedy M.

(3)Mark R.
Great place for a sunny summer evening meal. Dined on the patio. Tried the seafood queso, fried shrimp and crab legs. I would come back.
(4)Sara O.
Pretty good! Cool ambiance and cheap food and drinks. Nice seafood and outdoor seating. I would go here again if I lived in this area as this place would be a cool hangout!
(4)Carl H.
(3)Julie B.
It is right on Shem Creek and has a great dive bar atmosphere. The food is just okay and the service is usually slow. The prices are reasonable. If you go after 6 there will be a wait during good weather. Overall, it is a fun place to hang, look at the water and get a drink or two.
(3)Julie H.

(4)Michael M.
(5)Brad D.

(3)Deena D.
Just because I'm a tourist and you're a pretty girl doesn't mean you deserve 20%.. is it bad that I said that out loud? oops.
(3)Jerrod D.
(4)Jamie B.
(4)Stephanie V.
... Value/portion for prices a bit inadequate but flavors were okay .. Inside smelled like a farm.
(3)Chuck L.
(4)Raymond G.
(4)Anda C.
(5)Lawrence W.
Location, location, location. Great bar on the creek with patio and music on the weekends. Food can be so so but, it's a great bar for friends, local bands and an awesome time.
(5)Marissa F.
The location is great and it can be fun. If you're looking for a meat market full of frat types, you have found it. If you are looking for a really good meal with good service, I'm not so sure. The she crab soup is ok, but I have had better. The service here can be rude. It is much more of a bar than a restaurant.
(2)Glenn V.
(4)Colleen M.
Everyone kept talking about how great this place is so I finally decided to try it out. I absolutely LOVE this place! The food is delicious and the drinks are really good! We got a pitcher of margaritas and it was amazing!!! The staff is very friendly and I love how it is right next to the water.
(5)Brian D.
(3)Suzanne M.
(3)Pranee C.
Just went for drinks one night for the first time. Mixed crowd, downstairs was pretty busy. I was up on the rooftop which was very nice and chill. Love the area.
(4)Steven P.
(3)Nick M.
(2)Kayla G.
Parking is plentiful but fills up fast, however it's free!,
(3)Stephen O.
(2)Damon T.
(5)Nate P.
The angus burger was most and juicy , and a full half pound - slaw was a little bit different tasting than most, the Amstel Light was icy cold, sportsbar type environment was good for me as well , several TVs with various games -
(4)Bob M.
(2)Ahdri K.
(4)Kevin R.
Great location on the water where you can have a cold beer and watch the dolphins play in the creek....Must try the Grouper sandwich and buffalo fried shrimp....menu is limited...but it's a bar...w bar food...also can bring your dog...
(5)James H.
(4)Clifton M.
(2)Ralph B.
Great crab leg steam pot, great atmosphere... This is an awesome place if you are in the Charleston area!!!
(5)Chelsee T.
The beer is the coldest I've even had
(5)Jeff D.
(2)Toni C.
Good food. Fun, laid back atmosphere. right on the water. Looks at restaurants on the other side of the marina. Looks like you could dock your boat and hop off for good food. People were in boat clothes and casual attire. Would go back, for sure.
(5)Kellyn M.
(4)Billy S.
(1)Gary P.
(4)Mikkel T.
Great service. Good food. Great atmosphere. Took our family of 7 and all 5 kids lived it. Kids meals come on a frisbee you can take home. Great view over the inlet/river. Will be back for a date night to hang out without the kids next time we are in town.
(4)Sarah T.
(2)Eric M.
(4)Nicholas H.

Waitress told us that oysters weren't in season, So we went down the road to Art's and had all you could eat for $10. It's March.

(3)Morgan K.

(2)Andrew H.
Had many beers here and they were all cold.
(3)Joel C.
Good place to get a drink. I have sampled a few menu items: - Nachos were not great - Grilled shrimp were pretty good - Fried shrimp are OK - Fish and chips were OK Overall Red's is decent. The location is the real star of the show.

Cant go wrong with all u can eat snow crab!
(4)E K.
This place has a nice location and reasonable prices, but terrible food and terrible service. We came for appetizers and drinks with some friends. The appetizers we had were horrible. We tried the crab dip and lobster dip and they both had little flavor and were not fresh at all. Some of our friends had entrées which they said were not good either. They were constantly telling us to quiet down and not stand around between the bar and tables. At one point a couple guys jumped off the dock into the water and the management tried to kick out everyone in the entire dock area. Based on the food and prices it seems like their main focus is the bar, but if that's the case you have to allow people to have fun, talk to each other and cheer for sports games without telling them to quiet down.
(1)Lauren D.

(5)Kate R.
(3)Rachael P.
Loved Red's!!! Went on a Monday and it was all you cam eat crab legs. I could barely finish what I had in front of me before the server bought out more. Awesome!! They have a gorgeous area outside to sit and eat by the water.
(5)Diana G.
(4)Tammy M.
Great atmosphere, food and drinks are very reasonably priced, food was good (portions are a little small, but it was enough for us). Great experience!
(4)Cenker C.
I would say this place could have better fried oysters. Not necessarily the best place for winter. Relaxed atmosphere deserves a good comment.
(3)D N.
(5)Josh K.
The menu was decent and the ambiance was cool because you will be outside or near outside almost wherever you sit. They have a pretty bad beer selection, it's a bit expensive and it feels very touristy. The service was good and the people were friendly.
(3)Leanne B.
(3)Mark M.
Good atmosphere-fun place to be w/a bunch of friends. Foods good but you go for the location. Almost everything is fried so you gotta be up for that. If you're from the South, you probably are. If from California, maybe not so much.
(3)Andrew W.
(4)david r.
We ate there Christmas eve lunch, thought the food was fine. Especially after a morning spent kayaking.
(4)Keith C.
I love Red's. The atmosphere is great. Right on Shem Creek. The staff is always great. The food is good not great. Make this a stop for a casual unassuming dinner or a place to hang with friends and you will enjoy it.
(4)Regina S.
(4)A J.
(5)M A.
(4)Marla D.
(5)Kelly F.
(4)Jed M.
My buddy took me here saying it was his favorite place to go in Charleston. I have to say, I did enjoy the scenery, the view, and the atmosphere. And it wasn't too expensive either.
(3)David C.
We ordered a bucket of oysters, a grouper sandwich with fries, jalapeno hushpuppies, a crab dip, and 4 beers. With tip the bill came to $65. I have never been disappointed with the food that I have gotten here. The oysters were $14 for a jam packed bucket and they were very good. I feel its worth the price. The jalapeno hushpuppies are awesome. I got the grouper sandwich fried (you can get it baked or blackened) with the fries and it was awesome as usual. The tartar sauce has some garlic and maybe some blue cheese in it but it works great if you ask me. My gf ordered the crab dib as an entrée. You could tell it was made with fresh crab and it was tasty but no doubt rich. The inside is definitely beachy but is a bit cramped. The outside is glorious in the summer time with the ability to go up into the crows nest. Now the reason for the loss of a star. As in other reviews the service is spotty at best so be prepared to wait. Also unless you order PBR ($2.50) you will be paying $4.50 for budlight, miller lite etc and there is no draft beer. For these reasons its really a 3.5 star but I round up in this occasion because the food is worth it. .
(4)Susan P.
This place has only location going for it. The food is nothing to brag about. Lobster roll was all lettuce and came with stale old tasteless French fries on an ungrilled old bun. They have no craft beer. I was very unimpressed for my first meal in South Carolina. Disappointing.
(1)Jenna G.
Loved this place! I got coconut shrimp and they were amazing! The view of the water and sunset is great! They also have drinks in these little buckets that were great!
(5)Xtal K.

(3)Diana C.
(2)Ryan M.
(5)Megan P.
(4)Jennifer H.
Just a tip.
(3)Robert R.
(3)Sara W.
Cold drink, good prices and a beautiful view of charleston harbor. You can also rent a paddleboard or sail out on a sail boat nearby! Check out palmetto breeze sailboat!
(5)Mary W.
Standard beach pub fare but everything was fresh and delicious. Staff is friendly, service is fast, drinks are cold and location can't be beat!
(3)Liss M.
Haven't eaten here as yet have only been a few times for drinks and it's been great every time . Quick service at the bar, nice atmosphere and you can't beat the view . Drinks are cheap too, great place for a few drinks on a Sunday afternoon!
(4)Perry F.
Food is always on point and you can't beat the scenery. Best spot on the creek!
(5)Karen G.
(4)Anna S.
I ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese And it was good but disappointing there were 2 med sized and one small peace of lobster in the whole plate I hope they do better for others
(4)Deb W.
(4)Troy H.
(1)Hannah C.
The food is so expensive for how bad it is!! The lobster mac and cheese had about 4 pieces of lobster in a tiny bowl of mediocre macaroni (kinda seemed like it had been reheated). The atmosphere is nice, but it doesn't make up for the food!
(1)Dinah B.
(5)Jessica A.
(3)Victoria P.
(4)Roger S.
(5)Angela K.
I loved the atmosphere of this place! All you can eat crab legs on monday night for 29.99 pp. Waitstaff was prompt and drinks were good! Awesome view from anywhere you sit, and the rooftop bar was pretty cool.
(5)Margaret J.

(4)Zohra B.
(3)Sean C.
(2)Al M.

(3)Kelly M.
(3)Debbie S.
LOVE this place! Loved sitting by the water in the bar area. Was cold but they had heaters. Their oysters are AMAZING!!! They were in clusters too which was really cool. Can't beat $14 for a pail of huge oysters! Very good place. Their burgers were juicy and out of this world.
(5)TJ L.
(4)Julia R.
Great place to go to people watch on Shem Creek. The drinks are good, but a little overpriced. The servers are not very attentive. We sat with empty drinks for about 30 minutes so we went ahead and got the check and went somewhere else!
(3)Blake F.
(3)Lauren C.
(2)Sydney L.
Busy restaurant and bar on Shem's creek. Large menu with a lot of variety, but that seems to work against them. All the food was just okay; nothing to write home about. Drinks at the bar were good and inexpensive.
(3)Nat C.
Laid back, great view, grab drinks with friends for happy hour. Just go somewhere else for food. It's not their strong suit. Drinks. View. Meeting people.

(2)LeeAnne G.
(5)Michelle M.
(2)Rene M.
(4)Becca W.
Best crab dip I've had in a long time. It's served with tortilla chips and has lots of crab meat with cream cheese. The grouper sandwich was wonderful. The service was fantastic.
(4)Rick T.
(2)Bonnie B.
(4)Brandi P.
(3)Trevin L.
(4)Lindsay E.
(4)Margaret K.

Frank G
(4)Scotty C.
(3)Yusef S.
(5)Krystle B.
(3)Bill J.
(1)Miriam U.
Very good food!!! We enjoyed everything. Service was awesome too!
(5)Jen S.
Excellent ambiance, but don't expect too much fr the kitchen. Great place to meet friends for a beer/cocktail, enjoy the view of Shem Creek and watch whatever game on TV. Super dog friendly!
(3)Alyssa S.
(4)Jamie M.
(1)Laura D.
(1)AD W.
(5)Mindy H.
(3)Aaron S.
(4)Michael M.
This place is awesome, the lowcountry boil is the answer to all my life problems. Being by the water is a plus. Dolphins even come hangout here. Staff is always nice and my drink is always refilled.
(5)K C.
Parking sucks but the location is nice, food was OK, nothing to brag about so I can understand the mixed review and I especially like it because of the wide selection of seafood.
(3)Patrick H.
Nice place to sit and eat a burger on the water. Staff very helpful.
(4)Tonya P.
(2)Jill L.
(4)lindsay j.
(2)Ryan G.
Bitchy bartenders. Poured a vodka cranberry minus the vodka then decided to pour a shot of vodka in after questioning the drink and proceeded to charge for a double. Avoid this dump and it's decrepit restroom.
(1)Steve C.
Idk how this place has 4.5 stars. The service was terrible. The table was dirty. They brought our food out separate. Portion was small. Brought food with no silverware. TERRIBLE
(1)John R.
(5)Jake B.
Great views of the waterfront from the rooftop bar. Food is a bit like bar food. Lots of fried foods. Surprised by the lack of fresh fish for a seafood restaurant. Service was really good. Prompt. Nice. Happy hour had $4 mixed drinks
(3)Mary Locke M.
(3)Amy Lauren S.
(2)Chelia S.
(5)Dariel S.
If I were to rate Red's just on food it might be 3 stars. However the fact that it's right on Shem Creek and you can eat and have a drink watching the kayaks, boats and dolphins just demands another star. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and it was very delicious. I also thought prices were great.
(4)Jessica J.
(2)Mindy K.
(3)Tim O.
(4)Katharine D.
(3)Leon T.
They said a large was 14 shrimp but we got 13. Our 18 year old waitress made me think impure thoughts and I had to pray for forgiveness.
(2)Candyce V.
(4)Bailey B.
(2)Donna C.
Not impressed. Coconut shrimp were tiny, nachos w/ chicken were not very good. There was only a few pieces of tiny chicken on the entire plate. Server took forever to come around. We were never given any utensils. Go somewhere else
(2)Barbara N.

Really popular spot. We went on a Thursday night and it was really packed. Great atmosphere, right on the water. Live music & dog friendly.

(4)Jared D.
Great food! Had the crab queso and tricolor chips, was definitely different and very good. Then went for the 'shrimp and chips'...I ended up getting another half dozen shrimp. This is definitely a worthwhile spot to eat.

Monday night ask you can eat crab legs!!

We had a great time. Good food and a great environment to just hang out all day on the patio. We ordered nachos, a burger and the grouper sandwich. It was all really good.

(5)Travis W.

(4)Joe D.
